Default What is the best available CAI on the market?

I just purchased a new gs for my daughter and don't want to make it much faster then what it is, anyone see any true track time difference from stock to cai only.

Save the CAI money and instead upgrade the driver... Send your daughter to Spring Mountain (ideally, go with her, it'd be a great bonding experience). If, after driving a GS flat out at the track SHE thinks it's not fast enough, THEN look into mods. That just my humble Dad advice...

I've not seen any back-to-back, documented track gains from a CAI, but then again I haven't read every one of the 5000 posts we have arguing about whether CAIs are good or not, so I might have missed it!

The AFE has been serving me well for 3 years now. Absolutely zero complaints with it, and No question I would buy it again.

According to the folks a Vararam their LT1 system is cheaper and makes more power than AFE and Halltech if you are willing to wait.

Most people would never be able to tell the difference between stock and an aftermarket CAI, if they didn't know beforehand which one was on the car.

Leave it stock, and when the OE filter element needs replacement because it is dirty, then buy a replacement BMS filter element that fits in the original housing.

I agree that most folks won't be able to detect a 20 hp increase on a 460 hp engine. Would you rather have 460 or 480?

I have not read many exorbitant post about the AFE. In fact the installation process is the easiest and cleanest on the market.

Agreed. Fitment was perfect on mine, and I really like how it looks and sounds.

I'm under the impression that the OEM box does a good job. Maybe it's just the type of crowd that owns the car, or maybe stuff is just that good now, but you don't see posts anymore is stuff like X Y Z CAI is worth x rwhp, and people posting dyno gains or SOTP feel etc....apply that to most mods out there. I think I've read about some high power guys sticking with the stock air box even?

I'm not interested in paying $400-$500 for 20 HP I can't feel.

Sorry, but I can't feel the difference in my butt between running a 1/4 mile WOT in 11.3 seconds vs doing it in 11.2 seconds.

Besides, BMS claims 30 HP increase in the LT4(they do not show the LT1) for $89, so why buy a complete air breather setup when just a filter apparently does just as good.

I would probably swing $89(as I mentioned in my other post) when the stock air filter element needs routine replacement.

I wouldn't spend the $89 to pickup horsepower that I can't feel in my butt, and then throw away a perfectly good factory $50 air filter element with a lot of mileage left in it.
