Video - First startup of the very first, residentially fully built LT1!
Three months ago today, C7&7 and I removed the engine from my C7 Stingray with the plan for me to fully rebuild the motor with stronger parts in my home garage. Everyone says you just can't do that in a home garage because this motor is just too difficult, and the motor must come out the bottom. Not true, the motor can come out the top. was it hard, sure. But I was determined. As a result I am now the first person in the world to do a full LT1 rebuild in a residential garage, on jack stands nonetheless. Many of you have been keeping tabs on my build through my various "How To" guides that I write, but you may not have known that my progress on the build was much quicker than my guides came out lol.
So what's in this thing anyway? Here's the full list:
Let me be clear that I went through this motor very detailed cleaning all threads, all bolts, honed the block, file fitted the piston rings, measuring all bearing clearances, rod side clearances, crank end play, degreed the cam to ensure accurate grind, confirmed fuel pump lash cap, measured lifter preload and pushrod lengths, replaced ALL gaskets, seals, O-rings, etc. This was not just a "pop the heads and pan and put some pistons in".
Special thanks to C7&7 for helping me get the motor out of the car, and special thanks to Higgs Boson for providing me with a base tune for the car so I can drive it to the tuner.
Ladies and gents, without further ado, allow me to introduce her!
So what's in this thing anyway? Here's the full list:
- Stock rods and crank (they are still good for 1000 wheel).
- Vengeance Racing forged drop in pistons, 11.5:1 CR.
- Vengeance Racing Stage 2 DoD delete cam
- Vengeance Racing DoD delete kit
- Full ARP main studs, rod bolts, head studs.
- Comp cams lifters
- hardened pushrods
- LS7 trays
- C5R timing chain
- Comp Cams phaser limiter
- Texas Speed & Performance PRC ported heads,
- stock valves with 5 angle valve job
- Dual 660 valve springs
- Titanium retainers and keepers
- Comp Cams trunnion upgrade
- Full LT4 fuel hardware (HPFP, Injectors, Rails)
- WeaponX Ported intake manifold
- WeaponX ported throttle body
- EdgyVette Stealth E85 kit
- Alky Control dual meth
- American Racing 1 7/8" long tube headers with OR X-pipe
- A&A T-trim supercharger with 8.25" lower and 3.47" upper.
- Will be tuned by Howard at Redline once I can get some time next week or following week to get over there

Sounds great! I'm sure you have learned a lot and it was an immensely rewarding process. I built my first engine at home although I did have the block machined for more cubes. One thing I learned is I will never file rings again with a manual grinder lol.
Congrats and I hope you hit your goals.

This car will see most its time on the street, with several track outings from time to time..

Awesome job. Love the sound of some cam lope. Can't wait to hear it after the custom tune. Thanks for sharing and working to produce some informative how to guidance. Almost can't wait for my warranty to expire, so I too can have some engine building fun.

I have since tapped the charge pipe for everything. Now I am waiting for a larger nozzle tip for my second nozzle to arrive from Alky. Have a 15 and a 10 and upgrading so they are both 15's. Can't use the meth until I get tuned anyway.

Congratulations on getting everything together and running! That's a great feeling indeed especially with all of the work and effort you've put into the build. We are proud to be a part of the build and look forward to seeing performance results!

Impressive. That's good news. When I saw the pile(s) of parts at your house I never doubted you could pull it off, but I certainly thought it looked like a big big big job. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see the car run in the fall sometime when I'm down there. Cheers...
