Default How did you prevent your Base A8 C7 from overheating at track day?

What mods, methods of shifting, etc. have you done with your base A8 C7 to not overheat at track day? Level of driver, etc. Seems like some people like me have had some success and others not. I am approaching mid level driver. Maybe novice and intermediate drivers are not overheating their trannys and advanced drivers are. May some are short shifting using paddle shifters instead of leaving car in D. I have posted on a few other threads what basic mods I did to my car for it to handle better and be a little bit less likely to overheat. Maybe in the future when I become a better more advanced driver adding more cooling would make sense. Or maybe I should stop while I get ahead. Ger.

Remove front plate or bra if you have either on. Someone mentioned short shifting at 5k. Don't forget to swap the oil for 15w-50. Maybe try a 160-170 degree thermostat. Lower stat might buy you a little more time before it cooks.

Even my dad's Z51 A8 overheated at the track and it had a 170 degree thermostat. We're not sure why though. It was 95 degrees but we weren't driving that hard this time. In contrast, my base M7 had no issues. Maybe his car was low on coolant already for some reason.

Engine overheat?
Transmission overheat? <-- usual culprit.

Guys have done serious cooling actions with t-stats, radiators, aftermarket cooling systems, oil coolers, Z06 parts, and more.

Tracking a stock C7 A8 w/o a lot a mods will get the limp mode in a relatively short time. The M7 seems to hold up fairly well at the track.

You can upsize the coolers in the rear quarter panels with Z06 trans cooler, which includes a fan than move your stock trans cooler to the diff cooler.

Do you mean a non-Z, base LT1? I've never -heard- of one overheating.

I haven't read all the posts and honestly I was just checking out what Z06 owners are saying about their overheating problems and wondering if they know about the class-action law suit filed by Hagens Berman on 6/14/2017 against Chevy for promoting the Z06 as a track ready car, which I can say it is not. I have joined the law suit.

I took mine out on track for the first time a couple of weeks ago and though I'm in north Texas it was a cool August day and it rained 4 of the 5 sessions I was able to get in, thanks to Harvey ..... it overheated and went into limp mode 20 mins into the 1st session and I was not going anywhere near flat out. It didn't overheat on the next 3 sessions as speed was greatly reduced due to the rain. The last session was light rain and the track a little drier and again after 20 mins it overheated and I also got a service warning for the power steering which had stiffened up significantly.

After the weekend I drove it 40 miles back to the Chevy dealership without any issues and they found nothing wrong.
I have a Callaway SC757 supercharger and the service manager at the dealership told me it would only last 10 mins without this addition.

Just waiting to hear back from the lawyers if I'll still have a claim against Chevy if I add an aftermarket cooling system.

This thread is about non-Z06's overheating, but it is interesting to hear about your Callaway Z06. I wonder if the Callaway modified Z06 qualifies for GM's class action? This should be posted in the class action thread in the Z06 section.

I spoke with an associate at Hagens Berman who said ALL 2015-2017 models of the Z06 were covered. Callaway is warrantied via Chevy, I purchased the Callaway with the vehicle through an authorized Chevy dealership.

She also said as long any modifications do not "damage" the vehicle then they will not void the warranty ..... I'm no attorney and I know there is always an opposing argument regardless how senseless it maybe, so in my humble opinion if you help the engine and transmission to run cooler then that would not appear to be harmful!

I for one cannot wait for the tasty Haggen Dazs ice cream bar coupon we will receive as a settlement (while the attornies collect millions in fees).

Yeah. I think a lot of folks are expecting to receive enough of a settlement to purchase all the aftermarket cooling mods on the market, when it reality they (we) will probably get a few bucks at most thrown our way.
