Will do

We should get quotes back in after the Holidays. It's always tuff to get things done this time of year.

We have 2017,18's in bound to test the latest developments on. The weather needs to get better,..... or worse depending on how you look at it.

GS - LT1 Vararam install with Dyno Results...

#1

Nitro-C5 , 11-03-2017 07:50 PM
.... and not good.

I was abit skeptical about these numbers of just slapping on an intake (without tuning) and getting 18-20hp, but unfortunately now I know first hand. I cannot possible see how anyone is getting these results.

5 Dyno pull over a period of an hour and the best...best result we got was 2HP increase...but a 2TQ decrease!

Now in fairness I have not driven the car so the computer still may need to learn and as I said no tune just the intake. Extremely disappointing. Maybe my car is just different...?? Not calling out anyone specifically but I would really like to know how some of these tuners are claiming that type of increase by just bolting it on and running it on the dyno. What am I missing here? The computer actually called on more fuel but made the AF mixture more rich...so if its flowing more air the computer is confused.

Now in total fairness like I said the computer has not yet learned so it may be just a matter of putting some miles on it and then putting back on the dyno, who knows it may gain a good amount in the long run. I have the car in the shop to do LT headers and tune anyway so I know at the end of the day I should be pretty happy, we just pulled a run right after install of just that one component to see what we would get.

On a positive side, my installer/tuner said that Vararam was very professional to work with and the overall kit has a great look to it so some positive takeaways.

Well, I am now that I ordered the Vararam. I had my car tuned with the Halltech, hoping not to see too lean of burn with the Vararam... We shall see.

Interesting your results.....

What can I say, I'm impulsive. It's winter, work is slow (no one buys motorcycles this time of year) and I have Paypal credit.

Last season I had a well prepared C6 pull me on the straights, looking to improve that......

This particular car has the 1% mass airflow meter as we call it. All vehicles that use this meter will have the same issue of a weird or unusual reaction from the ECM. It tunes/reacts backwards.
This is all explained in a different post.
here is the link.

So for the step to install the bubble strip I'm not sure where that goes. Any better pics, I don't see it in any final install photos. I'm talking about the really thin long strip not the other two thicker ones. The step says install across the top of the VR unit but if that was the case I'd be able to see it in the fully installed photos wouldn't I...

Got everything bolted up and it fits almost perfect. I dropped one of the 10mm screws that bolt the airbox to the fender so the front end is probably a little too high. this screw refuses to be found so I need another one. Guessing I will just call my local dealer unless somebody knows an easier way to get one screw.

It prob fell down into the lower cross member carrier . That's where I drop them !
A nice long magnet and you will have your screw back!

Got a magnet, fished around for 10 mins, nothing. Lifted the car went underneath, looked around with a mirror, nothing. This bolt isn't worth my time. I'll call the dealer but does anybody happen to know the dimensions? Obviously its a 10mm x something.

The bolt is a GM bolt . You won't find it at any specialty bolt shops. The thread is 1.062 inch long x 5.83-5.84MM thick
I bought a few from our local dealer , just in case I dropped one into the automotive ABBIS
