Has anyone had issues with the hats on the girodisc rotors making contact with the hats to the pad.

I've had the same issue. Yours looks milder. Did you contact Girodisc? I did, and they said it should be OK, but perhaps they should redesign these hats and replace what we have, since this might become a safety issue, considering how close it is to the bolts.

Mine looks worse than yours : P

THat sucks. There is clearly contact. I wouldn’t think this would be safe. What pads have you used.

Yep, as I said, I did, and their reply was it should be OK, and that it happens with some brands of pads where the pad is cut a bit bigger. They recommended different brands of pads.

I do not intend to try different pads to fix this issue; I've been using ST43s and ST47s on this car. My hope is that it chewed hats enough, and it will no longer be an issue from now on.

Regardless, I think they need to redesign their hats and rings to remedy this issue. Why would they not leave any tolerance there in the first place?

Odd, I ran ST43s and never had that issue.

My photos isn't as close but when I zoom in on my PC (not sure if the forum will allow it to blow up large enough) there is enough of a gap

Even when I sold them, the hats were fine.

That one is for the Z07, not for Z06 iron brakes.

Ah, I didn't know Girodisc made rotors for non z07 cars. Honestly, that might be part of the problem.

Yes, they do. People usually only see the products that relate to them, so I can understand why you haven't realized : )

Long story short, the hats are too wide; they should redesign it

Response from
girodisc

Chet,

Thanks for getting in touch and my apologies for the delay as we're actually closed today. At any rate unfortunately most companies sell a pad for the new Z06 which is taller than the OEM pad, they do this because the taller shape is an older and very common shape that most pad manufacturers already manufacture and very few of them have actually made the new properly sized brake pad. This taller shape will not work with our rotors unless they are trimmed as we designed our rotors around the OEM supplied brake pad.

If you don't want to mess with grinding down any of the pads you have we do offer a direct fit solution in several different compounds from a low dust no noise street pad to a full blown race pad.

Also I will mention that the small amount of material that appears to have rubbed off of the hat is inconsequential and will have no effect on the integrity of the hats. The safety margin is quite high on those parts and even if you ground the aluminum hat all the way down to the pin they would be fine.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

Any chance of a redesign on the hat?
