Default A couple questions about the C7

Hi everyone, I plan on buying the C7 for my next car, although I'll probably end up buying used. I've never owned a manual car, and would love to have the C7 be my first. That being said, I just had a couple of questions about the C7.

1. The 6AT turned into the 8AT going from 2014-2015 & newer, however, did they do anything with the 7MT transmission since 2014?
2. What is the best model year for the 7MT, or are they all the same from 14+?
3. Are all Z51 Packages equal for every model year?
4. Can you drive in sport or track mode, but still use cylinder deactivation while not hard on the throttle? Or is cylinder deactivation only in eco mode?

If I find anymore questions, I will edit the post to add more, but thanks!

There is no “best” year for the M7. They are all equally good. If you are going to learn on any manual transmission, this is the one to do it with. The rev match feature and hill start assist make it a piece of cake to drive.

The first year of the C7 had an A6 tranny. In 2015 they switched to the (troublesome at times) A8

He M7 has remained unchanged from the get go.

Get the M7 you will not be disappointed.

Updated with another question: 3. Are all Z51 Packages equal for every model year? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Performance exhaust was added to the Z51 package in 2016 I think. It was a separate option earlier.

Look at the specs here:

I'd go for a 16+ 2 lt at least.

Front cameras, and Android auto / Carplay. No need for nav unless you just gotta have the PDR...

2lt is hud, vented seats and the front cameras, and the 10 speaker Bose radio. (yes it is better than the 9 speaker system...)

Driving an automatic Corvette is like banging with a condom, your almost there but not quite. I love my 16 Z-51 seven speed that replaced my 02 M6 vette.

I also want the front cameras. but I plan to pay off most, if not all of the car when I buy it, and I don't think 2016's will Depreciate enough for that to happen to me. But who knows? Thanks for the advice everyone.

I was watching Cars Costs and Technology's YouTube video about the "Ultimate C7 Buyers Guide" and it helped me a lot.

Just get the M7, leave all the electronic shitting (my mistake... "shifting") gobble-de-gook turned off and learn how to drive it. ENJOY!

Btw, Studebaker had a system called "Hill-Holder" that worked like the Vette no roll system, only better. Others have done similarly over the years. Too bad you cannot turn it off, as well, while learning (imho), so you could actually learn everything.

Updated with another question I couldn't find the answer of.

4. Can you drive in sport or track mode, but still use cylinder deactivation while not hard on the throttle? Or is cylinder deactivation only in eco mode?

For M7 AFM is only active in ECO mode, A6/A8 AFM is active in all modes unless you paddle shift (or plug the RANGE device into the OBDII port to disable AFM in all modes).
