Default Installed Long tubes and miss the stock exhaust sound

Starting to modify my 2015 Z51 and installed TSP longtube headers and x pipe to a factory axle back NPP exhaust. Obviously I have control over the exhaust volume level with the factory axle back exhaust which is nice. I can get it to a nice quiet level for cruising around, but WOT is just brutally loud and not really a good loud, just loud. Very metallic sounding. I know the long tube headers will make the exhaust slightly higher pitched, but am wondering what axle back exhaust I can do that will bring the pitch of the exhaust lower again. I have installed long tube headers on a few Merc C63's and with the stock exhaust they sound very much the same way, but with an aftermarket exhaust like an Akropovic they sound nice and deep again.

Any suggestions on how to get that deep sound back?

Update: Called up TSP and ordered the cat pipe section of the headers. Installed them on Wednesday and the sound is much better. Much deeper sound at idle and under WOT and quite a bit more quiet while still being plenty loud enough. Overall I am very happy with the change.

Corsa fixes drone issues, not sure about "loud" though... NPP is too quiet in my opinion so I guess it depends on your definition of loud?

Can you post a video, so we can see what type of sound?
Is it a drone or a rasp?

I can get a video. Generally though its just damn loud. In tour or eco mode it's fine and very quiet. No complaints there. But when I stand on it it is a high pitched note not the deep note the stock setup had. Would be fine for a race car but at this point I feel it is too much for a street car.

Long tube headers and x pipe are obviously going to make the car loud. Stay with the NPP. Corsa , Borla, and any other aftermarket axle back are only going to make it even louder.
Sometimes people change out the stock parts and lose street ability or the stock car feel. It all comes down to preference.

I would think that most of the good axle back exhausts though would at least make the exhaust tone lower pitched. Guess I need to hit up youtube.

I put TSPs on my 2015 as well. Do you have cats or no? I have catted going into the NPP. It is definitely loud. I installed a M2W switch which is not working currently for some reason so it runs NPP open all the time now. I like the aggressive sound but know exactly what you mean when you say you want it deeper.

I contemplated an aftermarket axleback but for the price I can't justify it. If I tried any it would probably be Billy boat PRT but I'm going to wait at least a year before making changes (if ever). Had a Flowmaster American Thunder on my challenger and although they don't get much love on this forum, for the money I thought that Flowmaster 40 series setup was perfect. Deeper rumble.

Long tubes are always going to be significantly louder. May need to return to stock manifolds.

custom weld in a couple small resonators / glasspacks. Good at soaking up the rasp, leaves the roar!

I have been looking at the AFE exhaust, just can't find any sound clips with the longtube headers.

Not much room for that with the current setup. We'll see though.

C7 exhaust valves only have two positions, open or closed. The modes just dictate when they open. So sport and track sound the same almost all the time

taking cats away will do this, I've done this on past street cars in different engine configs, never again. Cats quiet things down quite a bit and help the environment. This excludes any turbocharged car which can be streetable without a cat noise wise, but still destroy the environment. I on the camp that no street car should remove the primary cats regardless.

I have a set of Corsa Sport axle backs for sale if you’re interested. I have long tubes and the Corsa’s Help to tame it down. I want the car obnoxiously loud so they are too quiet for me..

The problem with a lower pitch exhaust note is it's going to drone. I do agree a lower pitch sounds better though.

Had my headers dona a few years ago at Carlisle. The good thing was being able to hear what other cars sounded like prior to my install. I have high flow cats and l think the sound with NPP is perfect( and I think it’s even better with the valves left open all the time) but everyone’s tastes are different

I'm going to ask the question because I honestly don't know the answer. People have talked about ceramic coating their headers to lower engine compartment temperatures. The coating apparently has an insulating affect. Does the coating have any affect on the sound?
