Fwiw if I remember correctly Jeff told me not to use the wheel blockers with the AP kit. It seems like there may be something similar in the installation instructions about cutting away some of the shields.

Yeah I'm leaning towards getting the AP kit up front.
Can anyone with experience with these kits confirm this assumption: since I am not in a Z06 or other high HP car, and since my use case is DE + DD and not racing, let alone endurance racing, I don't need the 9668 front caliper. I am zeroing in on getting the 9660 caliper with the 372mm rotor, and the rear BBK of which there's only one choice from Essex.
Anyone think I would be making a mistake by not going with the 25mm pad option? Money is a real object to me, so I want to only buy what I need and no more.

Do you anticipate any push back at dealer if you need warranty work done and have after market brakes on the GS?

Well, it pains me to have to do this, but due to unforseen family matters I need to help my parents out with some cash and the BBK I literally just bought is for sale. I never even installed it, which I guess is a good thing.

Appreciate that. Family takes precedence. Challenge is, finding a buyer for these given they are such a niche item from a needs and resources perspective.

Melting Slicks
Get with diety motorsports and buy their signature wheels. They have it all sorted. You can run a 315/30/18 front and 335/30/18 rear on the R888R. They'll get you light forged wheels with curled beads for like $3500 shipped. Or something close to that.
I run that setup. It's noticeably slower than cup tires, but about half the price, better balance and my tires don't melt apart.
I grabbed a quick pic of my car on signature wheels after I washed the car, popped the roof off and thought "I should grab a picture"

I've had predicted at low 1:56 and actually ran 1:57 on Cup2. And I ran 1:57-1:58 consistently. I attribute 1-1.5 seconds to it being about 30 degrees cooler that day, but they're not even close. Keep in mind the R888R had the advantage of being on forged 18s vs the Cup2 being on Z06 wheels.
R888R are also just a fickle ******* tire. They heat up much quicker than SC2, but it's almost binary with pressure. 2 PSI too high and you're on ice.

Very noticiably. I was shocked. I was pushing harder on the R888R and I couldn't even get my predicted times below 2:00. Maybe for a turn or two. Best I could ever actually turn was a high 2:00.xx.

I would run the stock system for a while anyway with some upgraded pads, once you go to some slicks or A7's the BBK would do you some good.
+1 for Ken at KNS, he hooked me up with the DBA's I have on my C6Z.

JRZ coilovers, Stoptech Trophy BBK, Ground Control camber plates, etc. I run in the advanced intermediate classes in various outfits (think a notch or two below the truly fast guys). I run about 8-10 DE’s a year and will be dailying this car, as I did my M3.
I posted elsewhere but for those that didn’t see that thread, my new ride is a 2018 Carbon 65 GS coupe 7MT! Such a beautiful thing. I’ll be sure to attach pictures below.
So, on to my question for this thread. I’ve been planning to track the GS with the OEM iron brakes but augmenting them with castrol SRF, Ti shims up front, and Ferodo DS1.11 pads front and rear. On the Michelin PSS tires that she came with, should I expect this braking setup to be drama free on tracks like Summit Point and VIR, or should I just spring for that Essex AP racing BBK that I am planning to buy next year, right now instead?
Once these tires wear out, I will likely be switching to Cup 2’s, but I’m thinking this whole season will be on the PSS’s.

Wow ! I did almost the exact same thing ! I traded my 2016 M4 competition package for a 2017 GS. The M4 had camber plates, apex wheels, Toyo R888s and very aggressive track alignment.
As fun as the M4 was ( and amazing fast in a straight line ) I wanted something that was more track capable.
I took my GS to the track the week I bought it, bone stock the car was 4 seconds faster a lap at Buttonwillow. I have the carbon brakes so I’m not sure my example helps much but there are guys at the track running iron brakes all day long.

UPDATE: some of you are aware that i bought a front+rear essex/AP racing BBK but almost immediately afterwards an unfortunate circumstance with my parents meant I needed to help out directly with a good deal of monetary support. This meant I needed to sell the AP kit before ever mounting it up.
Fast forward a month and I was able to find several other items to sell, including the stock braking system, which allowed me to still help as planned, but keep the AP kit!
I’ll be installing the kit this week, and I’m super excited about it. My brakes are the last thing I want to be concerned about when I’m pushing my new toy on the track, which I why I purchased her in the first place!
Thanks to everyone who posted up here. I know it will be an enormous help for others moving forward. You’re a good crew.
