C7 for the track?

It's not a money thing...its just a question lol. Thanks for replying.

I'm in SoCal so it's pretty hot, part of why I ask for input, as I see the C7's having issues at the track frequently.
Any thoughts on tire wear for r comp or R7's? I only get 5-6 sessions with my current car and looking at alternatives that are easier on tires, but doesn't sound promising.

Im getting 3 days out of my front and 5 days out of my rear R7’s. I have a GS.

I can't imagine you'd have a problem getting 2-3 days out of Hoosiers

As Bill said, between my 2015 and 2017 Z06 I have close to 150 track hours on that platform and have never had the car overheat, including in temps in the upper 90's. I did a very detailed breakdown on the difference between the GS and the Z06 at VIR in the below video but the net is that it's about 3-4 seconds. I get about 3.5 track hours out of a set of scrubs, 11 gallons in 20 minutes on track, and about 5 days on front pads with the AP Racing kit. I run Castrol SRF for brake fluid and have never boiled the fluid.
The GS is definitely a nice car and if you don't care about the extra 3-4 seconds a lap you'll save money on fuel and brakes for sure.

I think I'm going to put my car on a diet. Seats, battery, rotors (already have wheels). It's about all I can do while forcing GM to upkeep my car for the next 95k miles of track use. I wonder if I'll notice any difference dropping 125lbs or so (and that's probably optimistic).

Interesting, thanks.

Since you guys consume large amounts of tires, who changes out your tires for you? I could barely find one person in my entire metro area that could change out a 335 Cup 2. I always fear the wrenching on my car if I track it. Always having to change oil, brakes, and tires all the time. The oil and brakes at least I can do. Tires obviously need a special machine. I have a new Grand Sport so that's what I would track if I did.

For sure the N.A. Grand Sport would be a great option for the track with a manual transmission and ZO7 package

The automatic transmission on my '14 Z51 easily overheated on a DE event. For track stay away from the C7's automatic transmissions.

You can just bring them the wheels if you ran slicks.

It can be hard getting the large Michelin ZP tires to seat once the tires are on the rim. Some shops can't seem to get the bead to snap into place while others don't seem to have a problem. However, if you use Pirelli Slicks, Hoosiers, R888s then you should find that most any shop can do the work. I would find a locally run shop that sells a lot of tires and see if they will mount your tires. When I lived in upstate NY I had a locally owned tire distributor that was the area distributor for Cooper Tires that mounted my race tires. They didn't charge a lot and the guy doing the mounting worked on a NASCAR Modified Pit Crew and knew about mounting race tires. Each time I took a set to them I would get them back marked with the stagger sizing so I knew which tire would work best in a turn situation. Try and find that kind of knowledge at one of the big tire company stores. You can get Pirelli Slicks pretty much locally for you from GT Racing Tires http://gttrackdays.com/?doing_wp_cro...93273925781250 which is located in WI.
