Default Synthete Dextros or Moble One?

Had my z51 oil changed at dealer
price was 40$ less then i expected!
on asking they said they put in GM's brand of full synthete instead if moble one !!
said there was a service notice that it was good to go on a z51....
should i have them remove it and put mobile 1 in OR is it ok to use gm's brand ...
they said differences were zip except that dextris came in 55 gal barrels an mobile 1 camera in bottles...

Technically Mobil 1 is the correct, and better, choice, but Dexos is now a full-synthetic rather than a syn-blend so you're good to go either way. Both are fine as far as the warranty is concerned. I wouldn't sweat it and just be sure to request Mobil 1 next time if you'd prefer it.

And how many miles? Depending on your year model you get 2 or 3 free oil changes.

oh i am way past that
i have 30500 Smiles on my 2016 z51 and tell now only used moble one ..
they told me that at factory they now use dextrous not mobile 1
So i dont feel "bad" about it ...
just a bit uneasy at first
LOL...
A retubale mechanic told me it is likely made by the same plant , that synthetics are just about identical but for the name on the can.

They are lying to you. The 2019s come factory filled with Mobil 1 0w40 ESP Formula, and prior to that it was Mobil 1 5w30.

GM Dexos Synthetic motor oil is manufactured for GM by....................none other than ExxonMobil. It's not a coincidence. Enjoy the $$$ savings and drive the car.

It won't be Mobil 1 though, it'll be their Mobil Super Synthetic, which is not of the same quality.

Their oil is now classified as a Full Synthetic. It is perfectly fine to use it.

It might be perfectly fine, but it's still not as good as Mobil 1.

Wont hurt anything, just annoying. So many garages/dealers pull that stunt.
Call them on it, dont ever go back even if its free.

Did they install the new Dexos2 Mobil1 10W40 which was just approved for the 2019 Vettes and is approved for usage in Corvettes as far back as the 2011 model year?

What is their criteria for "approving"? Cant help but wonder if its part quality and a whole lotta financial incentive.

Dexos is just a spec/standard. There are literally HUNDREDS of oil that meet and exceed GM’s dexos and dexos 2 standard, and plenty of dexos certified.

There are no “dexos” brand oil. There’s no such thing as “dexos is now full synthetic.” Dexos simply means it’s an oil formulation that is approved by GM to use in a range of their engines, including the Corvette. It could be a Valvoline oil, Castrol, Shell, Quaker State, or Mobil 1.

FWIW...if the dealer used the correct weight and a full synthetic oil...no issues.

But, I don't like the dealer not using the what the service manual calls for TSB or not.
Next visit I would "call them on it and specify they use Mobile 1", but you'll pay $40 more
plus once it is back in the shop you will not know what oil they fill with.

Opinion... DIY oil changes can be fun and satisfying. DIY if you can.

That's true, but for a while GM was selling an oil that had "Dexos" in big letters on the bottle, and the "GM" wording was in small print; most people thought it was a brand name and that error persists.

This whole thread is why I hate letting the dealer do oil changes. You NEVER know what the dealer has put in. Either do it yourself or watch and see what the dealer actually puts in.
