Default Dyno results 2015 C7 A8

Below is the results of recent dyno testing on my 2015 A8. The baseline numbers reflect Katech cam and heads along with long tube headers and a Vararam intake. The blue line is with Halltech intake and 93 octane. Red line is E85. Stock car dynoed at approximately 385.
Katech is very professional and I would recommend them to anyone wishing to upgrade their Corvette.

It dyno'd 385 stock on a dynojet? I don't believe that. WOuld be the lowest reading dynojet in history.

My 15 A8 dyno'd 390 on a dyno dynamics which is about the lowest reading dyno out there and makes 470 on headers, intake, e85.

A couple questions:

1) was the Vararam also on 93 octane?
2) were both the Vararam and Halltech individually tuned and optimized?

thank you
Bruce

PS: nice numbers!

Although all I put in the car is 93 octane, I believe Katech tunes to 92. All data reflect Katech tune optimization.

Once again.....very nice!!!! Since I’m a bit slow, those numbers are definitely saying that the haltech definitely gave you more horsepower? Basically 13? Thx, gary

When I contracted with Katech for this work they were insistent that the Halltech was an important element in getting the most out of their head and cam package performance. What I don’t know is whether or not the Vararam was an improvement over stock. I installed the Vararam. No before and after testing was done.

I had a Halletch in hand, pre-fit it however it was laying on the radiator hose(s) and retuned it. Curious as to how your fits? I read a post somewhere that said Katech takes a heat gun to the Halltech, but have NO idea if this is true??? I KNOW of Katech's reputation and don't doubt their skills/opioions.

I returned the Halltech and bought the Vararam but have not installed it. I(we all want) the kit with the best gains. Im tempted towards the AFE....

conflicted...

Yea Bruce I’m a bit **** and I bet I have 10 hrs on my haltech install. It did finally come out nice with no contact at all with any hoses. I had to maneuver the lower coolant hose closer to drivers side. It slides in the 2 plastic clips on lower subframe. It is the hardest install of the 3 majors but all the big guys use them. I believe they just tried to get the largest box possible so a little install tweaking is the downside. Like I said I’m very particular and my haltech install fits as good as the factory.

Gary, Like you I am the same and just felt it was TO intrusive and the heat soak would ultimately detract from it overall sizing/fit. That said, I was reluctant to take a heat gun to it. I had a Holley initially and it honestly is VERY clean, fit nice however it would NOT stay connected at the housing and intake tube interface. It basically had a slip fit and the motor rocking (autocrossing and/or aggressive driving) caused it to slip loose. I HOPE they can resolve this. I then tried the Hallech, and now have the Vararam, HOWEVER.... If there is a 10+ hp/torque gain with the Halltech, I may rethink this, or try the AFE s it is fairly large and most say it fits better??

What are your impressions with the Katech package overall. Does it pull from off idle?
What are the spring life expections.

thank you
Bruce

I believe hose interference can be an issue. The hose can be rotated so you can get some clearance I think. Also I wrapped the radiator hose with
heat wrap in an attempt to reduce heat transfer to the filter box.

Morning,

What are your overall thoughts on the Katech package.

Does it pull from off idle?
Anticipated spring life?

thanks

I have absolutely no complaints about engine performance. I have experienced no part throttle hesitation. WOT pulls are similar. The E85 conversion
works very well. Based on my experience their reputation is well deserved. Possibly with respect to the work I had done, I would do two things differently. I should have had them forge the rotating assembly while the engine was out of the chassis. Also I did not question the cam specs. Their choice is a good one. It has no drive ability issues that I have experienced. However I think I would have preferred something a little more aggressive.
Now to actual quantitative performance. I have not been to a drag strip as yet, but I use a Dragy to measure acceleration. On stock tires my best quarter mile performance is 11.37 sec @ 126 mph. Not to bad. I wasn’t aware I need to be concerned valve spring life. Katech never raised it as a issue.

Lancelot1 thank you!

This is there 600HP package, correct?

Is your car using the factory converter? If so that cam must work well down low?!?!

Can you give me a short version of the overall process, dropping car off, ruffff eta on turn around(I know this is dependent on their schedule, etc)

That is pretty quick on the street, with street tires, nice!!

thanks again
Bruce

Yes 600 package. Stock converter. As I recall , I contacted Jason Harding in early May once I decided I wanted this package. I think there was about 3 weeks between the time I contracted for the work and when they were ready for the car. They had the car about 2 weeks, maybe a few days more. Based on my experience you will be pleased with the results. Jason will give you a tour of their facilities and you will see it’s a first class operation.

We don't take a heat gun to a Halltech in any installations.

Jason,

My apologies about the heat gun, hopefully my saying I wasn't sure relieves me of extra charges should I go for the 600 HP package, smiling.... I actually exchanged an e-mail or two more recently about stage 1 and/or 2. However I am interested, and thinking....

Bruce
