Default Holy hiccups Batman. $3,000 for fuel sending unit replace

I just read in general discussion the cost for replacing fuel sending unit is $ 3000. I’m hoping we can have a DIY guide to perform this. I would try to do this repair myself if and when I need it.

It's a PITA. Just installed a Fore Innovations dual pump kit in a customer's C6. Between parts and labor it was 5k. C5+ fuel tank design is some of the dumbest crap I have seen in the automotive world.

If there's $3000 of labor and gasoline involved, that's when dealership labor becomes "worth it" to me!

Then people don’t listen when a credible source says to store the vehicle with 1/4 tank. Live and learn.

Also an A8 is worse than M7. Still have to drop the torque tube down with rear tranny to get the tank cross tube out to drop the tank. I went through all that before I just decided to do a custom low side using a custom pickup tube. Just too much work for me to get a damn fuel pump in. Now if I was changing my clutch then yeah makes more sense.

A 1/4 tank means the driver's side fuel tank is half full. Even at a 1/4 tank the driver's side fuel level sensor may still be in the gasoline. How many cars that aren't driven much sit around with a half full gauge reading which means the driver's side tank is full? Worrying about the fuel level causing issues with the two sensors in a stored car is sort of senseless if the fuel level in seldom driven cars (most Corvettes) is half full or more.

It's expensive 'cause you gotta drop almost the whole power train to get access (torque tube, tranny, differential and complete rear end cradle......

So if there's a permanent fix by using an aftermarket fuel pump system, we'll be able to pay just once for a fix. Let's hope GM, helps us out on this one, hopefully before ours go out of warranty.

You don't have to drop the entire drivetrain to do it, but it helps. I have done them without dropping the trans or torque tube on an auto. It sucks, but it can be done.
