New C7 Mishimoto thermostat??
There are so many threads regarding thermostat topics such as stat temps, gasket failures, LMR and BTR housings, bulb replacements, tune/no-tune, etc. but I just noticed what appears to be a new thermostat from Mishimoto. It is a 180* stat and its model number is MMTS-VET-180. The picture below is from Mishimoto's website and here is a link to the thermostat https://www.mishimoto.com/chevrolet-...014-12272.html. The reason I am interested in this "new" Mishimoto is the temp (because I do not want to adjust my tune for fan speeds, etc. just yet) and because it looks like that they changed the design to look pretty close to the stock C7 thermostat. The other picture below is from LagunaSecaZ06's post that shows the stock C7 stat on the right vs. a failed gasket on an older Mishimoto design. I have this installed on my car, I was having all kinds of issues with aftermarket thermostats. None now this is working fantastic for me. I track my car and was overheating with the old thermostat but this one is flowing great and I have no more issues.

I installed one in my vette and it failed in less than 30 days and 500 miles. It's a overpriced piece of junk. I've had much better luck with the cheaper brands.

This is the first I have heard of a 180 Misho Stat.
I transplanted the 160 Misho bulb years ago with a 170 bulb from another stat and no problems here. I just thought that 160 was a tad too low for me. 170 is the sweet spot, at least for me.

Doing this also. But with the stock tsat ring. Are you tuned for the 170 stat?

I did not want to change the tune as I fear the dreaded A8 shudder would give GM a reason to deny the tranny warranty.

I am still running the stock OEM tune, so the fans do not kick on early enough to keep it at a constant 170. I have a Dewitt's fine radiator so if I am sitting in the normal stop and go Central Florida traffic, it runs at 190 as expected, but does not go any higher than that even in the Florida inferno. When traffic flows, it goes right back down to 168 according to the digital gauge.

correct me if im wrong, but dont the cars run leaner on the stock tune prior to the cats coming up to temp? I was under the impression that the cat temp is calculated by oil temp in a behind the scenes algorithm that HP tuners can't see yet.
That all being the case, its plausible that keeping the oil temps under 170 might cause the car to run more lean, which is great, as the stock cars run too rich as it is.
just some food for thought, these might bring power up.

So which 170 bulb did you use and which housing? How hard of a job is it to swap them?

fwiw, i have read on numerous occasions that the 160's are reliable and the 180s are not.

It is very easy to replace the bulb. Just press one out, replace. Plan on doing this tomorrow. Pulling the stock bulb out.

so are you suggesting their 180 will be reliable? why do others, in this thread, indicate it is not ,would you say?
Also, what are the real downsides to running down in the 160's. Is oil going to really be that much different beween 160 and 170, for it to be a deal breaker do you think? ... especially with the 0-40 oils now?
I just created a separate thread over in the z06 section asking this question. I put it there since i have a z06, and i feel like these cars can heat the oil the last 10 degrees to 170 in the blink of an eye if a person starts driving the car hard... so im curious if this 160 degree number is really indeed harmful for an LT4 engine?

Just don't like cobbled together cooling stuff if I can avoid it.
I have been running a 174° Lingenfelter bulb in a Mishimoto 160° OEM style "housing" i.e. the round flat sealing surface with crimp in rubber seal like OEM.
I have been running this combo stat for many months, no problems at all. The normal cruising temp with a 75-85° ambient temperature usually runs between 178 to 182° in my car.
The reason 'especially' up in the northern states that the 160° stat is 'not' used is that the car in cold weather does not warm up quick enough to the minimum required temp/time which than turns on the check engine light.
The reason that I am trying this new OEM style 180° Mishimoto stat is that I have a feeling this stat will keep the cruising temps about the same as what's in the car now but the new one won't be cobbled together. The round hole varies in size from brand to brand as does the diameter of the bulbs. This 180 Mishimoto does not need to be re-engineer/cobbled together from two different brands of thermostats.

so does the new 180 have the oem HD style housing then also, as the 160 did? I have heard the housing is the problem on the 170 and 180's

PS: I just ordered the 180° Mishimoto from the OP link. Again thanks for the info. Oh, timing retard from engine cooling temps don't start until the engine cooling temp hits 194° where -1 degree timing is pulled and goes up from there from what I have read.

PS: Look at link again, in one of the 3 pics it shows the front/top view with the higher temp rating (82°C = 179.6°F)

If you check the OP link to the new 180° Mishimoto stat you will see it is constructed the same as OEM.
