New PF64?
I saw a bunch of threads debating the merits of the PF64 vs the UPF64R BUT... has anyone seen a PF64 that looks like this? This is new to me.

1. go buy a bunch of the current ones from walmart (I am)
2. start conspiracy theory that this change is because something sucks about the new C8
kinda tire of Chevy changing stuff on the cars, but I can't get them to make a software update for the gauge cluster in Track mode...(go ahead, look it up, they didn't)

If you look at my picture, you can see a sheet metal ring around the threads with holes set up about 1/4” from the normal ring. Not sure how to articulate what I’m seeing but it’s definitely different.

The top part of the filter has been redesigned. Here's the old style.
And the new style posted above.

I'll take the new one, Man.
Looks like the new filter may flow better from what I see.
The holes in the new filter are much thinner for the oil to past through AND if you look 'closely' at the old one it looks like that rubber grommet/valve 'below' the holes is also restricting oil flow (big time).

Looks like the old one can take more torque when trying to remove a sticky oil filter. New one looks wimpy.

Ps:
Just noticed another nice feature the new filter has in the pic that the old one does not. The new one has sealing grooves/ridges on the bottom of the filter sealing gasket.

Got a couple of the new ones from the dealer. The sealing gasket may appear to have grooves in the pic but the ones I got are smooth. The metal with the holes is beer can thin but is not attached to the part with the threads used to tighten the filter. Seems like the new one will allow more oil flow that the old. It looks to me The threads are attached to a heavier metal plate below. So the new one looks "wimpy" from the top but will most likely take the same amount of torque for removal as the old one. Don't really know what to make of the changes but I think you can be sure lower cost was the motivation for GM to make the change.
