Default Bent rims

I have a 2017 Grand Sport with Gloss Black Wheels . I brought it in to have the balance checked and found all 4 were bent. I understand that this is a common issue with ZO6 & G.S. wheels. On another site I was told there is a class action lawsuit in the works over this . I was considering trying to have them straightened at a wheel repair place. Anybody have experience with this and possibly some recommendations ? I am in Dallas Texas.

It can be done depending on the extent of the damage. The only way to know is take it to a shop that does that kind of work.

The official GM line is that bent wheels should not be straightened, just replace them. But aside from the expense, someone posted recently that GM has no wheels in stock for his car (GS? Z06?).
There are many, probably thousands, of Corvettes running around on wheels that have been straightened, and I'm not hearing of any problems. Sometimes wheels crack, even if never straightened, usually but not always you'll get a slow air leak so investigate immediately.

If I can see that the wheel is bent just by looking at it, then I wouldn't straighten. And I won't straighten a wheel a second time.

There are all sorts of techniques for wheel straightening. Some places heat the wheel, some don't. Some "massage" it slowly back to round, others just apply pressure as needed. Every technique has someone who will claim it's dangerous, but I'm not seeing any proof one way or the other.

Good luck...

PS- We have two sets of wheels/tires for our 2017 Z51, 8 wheels total. In 28k miles on the bombed out roads of the Midwest, we've bent 5 of the 8. And I really try to be careful with potholes and frost heaves.

I have 4 straightened wheels on my 17 Z06. They can be straightened if they aren’t bent terribly. I have the MRC update so hopefully that keeps from bending again. Only 4600 miles on mine too.

Yeah, they got my money. I wasn't willing to be dealing with wheels issues over and over . . .

Mine too...but knowing how serious this epidemic is(bent wheels)...no use in throwing good money after bad...since OEM replacements will only cause future problems..spent the $$ and bought Forgelines with what I paid...when I trade my GS in...those wheels are staying with me!!

Smart move. I remember one forum member was complaining about bending rims in her new GS for months. Then she got some Forgelines. You never see her post about rim problems since. This is the real fix.

After more research looks like I will go with with Forgelines as well
