Bought a 2014 C7 Z51 four days ago. When I went to use second remote it was not recognized by the car. I have tried multiple, multiple times to reprogram. I have followed the procedure in the manual using the "one recognized remote" method. Turn car off, open hatch/trunk, put key in slot by tag, put transmitter in cup holder, turn key in slot by tag 5 times rapidly, get message "ready for remote 3", slip unprogrammed remote in steering column slot and wait for message on dash to say ready for remote 4. Never happens. I have read several variations such as leave the lights on to extend the time for the programming. Leave the passenger door open (perhaps for the same reason). Take your car out in the driveway to avoid any interference. Do not have ANYTHING plugged into car. NO CELL PHONES OR OTHER REMOTES NEARBY.
Before I go nuts, I wanted to ask if anyone has a trick I have not tried. Thank you for any help.
Well, were it me, I'd use the long program (No fobs in use) we have on here and program both FOBs again as 1 & 2, rather than 1 & 3. 3 won't have any memory functions but it will lock/unlock, start the car, open the trunk but seats, mirrors and radio stuff won't be remembered. Go through the steps and jump to step 8 for the long program.
P.S. forgot to mention new batteries in remote and car battery at full charge. I am wondering, how will I know if the circuits in the fob are good. I may be fighting a loosing battle and don't know it.
There are instructions on how to test the slot in the link. You can actually start the car without a fob battery in it if it is programmed to the car and placed in the slot.

I am getting help and will know more later. I will admit I am afraid of the Long Method. This is my primary car and don't want to loose what I have. Thanks everyone and wish me luck.

As Elmer says, the instructions make it pretty safe. But if you are really worried, the standard Forum advice is to perform the long method in a dealer's parking lot, so that if necessary you can let them do it.
