Depends....
If the Z06 is meant to be a track car, doubt it will be a vert. Chassis rigidity argument aside, verts are not good track cars ( exception being race prepped cars such as a spec miata ) , most clubs will want special waivers etc.
If the Z is marketed as just a more expensive high performing Vette I expect to see verts targas etc....

GM has always left the factory track cars to Dodge and Porsche. They know the Corvette customer who wants a gutted track car will buy the car and create it themselves.

But have doubts it will have roll protection which is unfortunate!

The standard C7 vert doesn't have exploding roll-over protection so logic dictates the Z06 vert won't have it either. Plus, no tracks will consider that to be adequate safety for a track day anyway. Only cars with OEM roll-hoops like the S20000, Boxster, and Z4 BMW get a pass from time to time with some groups.

vert and auto
sigh! resigned it will never happen. wouldn't even suggest an awd option either. porsche to their credit does offer their prospective buyers better
range of models and options. but yes they do make you pay for them!

I personally won't buy a convertible but I see no mech reason not to offer such with the new ZO6. I will be ecstatic if there is a "Targa...Spider" variant...
Also, why the need for ceramic breaks? According to the April 2013 issue of R&T in tests to determine how long, distance it takes to come to a dead stop from 60mph and 80mph the Vette GS took 108/191ft and the 911tt s with the ceramic breaks was 107/185. The ZO6 was an incredible 103/175. I don't recall if CB came standard on the '12 ZR1 but it's numbers were 105/183. I realize that the real strength of the CB comes out in continuing hard use such as is found in road racing but for the street and safety I see no reason to purchase. But that's me and not you..rrm

One benefit outside of brake performance is reduced rotational mass.

I say yes, and I've got my checkbook ready. I think there are Corvette buyers who want maximum power in the traditional sports car configuration - top down. Porsche usually offers the 911 Turbo in a Cabrio and there is the Ferrari 458 Spider, Jag F Type and top Mercedes models. I'm a Corvette guy so I want the same choice. Makes sense for GM to make it available.

The c6 427 convertible sold well so I believe in the interest of meeting consumer demand the answer is clearly yes
LT4 z06 bodied convertible is a definite.
What it's called? Anybodies guess..
But it's coming
And if the new A8 will handle the power expect an automatic too
Remember it's about making sales to make money

The biggest way to tell if there is a poser behind the wheel of a sports car is if the roof goes up and down.
That said, I fully support GM making some profit by making/selling such a car.

I think GM would be crazy not to consider building a Z06 vert. If another people want to pay for it.. (and sales of the single year available 427 Vert show that enough people do exist).. why would you not offer it?

Gm should offer a vert and coupe for the z06. They should offer auto option as well as full manual. There may be a market for a grand sport type of car with the c7 base engine in a widebody. But those first two options should be absolutely offered.
I sold off my 08 z06 because it was not and auto and got sick of driving stick in place that now live. I also didn't like the fact that it wasn't a vert and again living where live now wanted at least one vert in the stable.
I am not buying a base c7 because I want a higher hp ,widebody bit less common corvette. There will be tons of c7 out there in a few years. But not near as many z06 or zr1s.
So guess we will find out more in a few weeks. I would also be happy if the z06 also have removable roofs. And truth be known generally I prefer retractable hardtops over ragtops but there are pros and cons to each setup. Ragtops are lighter, cheaper, more reliable but retractable roofs look better to me up , are quieter.
One thing didn't like in the c6 was that the 427 was only offered with manual transmission in the vert. But then again that was also the only way the z06 was offered.
