Default C7 Grandsport

I just left our monthly corvette club meting and as usual a GM rep got up and talked about new things from GM. He told us there would be a
C7 grandsport next year based on the new Z07 wide body. In the past he has provided good information to the club, we shall see. Dont flame me out I am just repeating the information I was provided.

I can already see it….a GS wide body with 525HP… right in the sweet spot…Would be interesting to see the price point as others have said it will be tough to do unless it's say in the middle like the engine….say….60K low end and 75-80K high end….

I would bet money on a Grand Sport version coming down the line. Change out a few fenders, slap on some bigger tires and you have another more desirable model in the line up. GM will squeeze as much out of this line as they can.

There's probably some pretty easy to harvest headroom for more hp out of the LT1. I could see them doing this. We've already seen the widebody vert test mule. Perhaps it's got a slightly stouter LT1 in it. NA in that hp range would make for a fun car.

I have not seen the wide body vert test mule… But you make a good point. If we go off what Tadge said about taking the some of the newer old technology and put it into the "lower" model it might be interesting to see if they take the old Z06 stuff and move it to a C7 GS

Only time will tell….

The GS was a big hit and exactly what people asked for. It's a great way easily add a new model and keep the lineup fresh over time. Plus, the investment is nothing. It's almost 100% guaranteed again.

However, I don't think there should be a wide body GS. Let the Z be that much more special. It will keep the Z image and value higher.

I do support a GS based on the Stingray, not the Z. Chevy could easily add an advanced aero package, tune the LT1 for a slight bump, enhance the cooling and go with a better tire.

500+ hp is all I can really think of. My GS already has a few of the Z06 parts like you mention.

I think its a safe bet that since the new Z06 will outdo the outgoing ZR1 that a new Grand Sport will easily outdo the outgoing Z06.

IMO, if the new Z only sells 500-1000 units/yr…you can bet there’ll be another lower priced knock-off.

GM sold too many C6 GS’s to ignore that buyer.

It is all about selling cars. If GM believes a GS will sell anywhere near what it did with the C6, they will build it.

It will likely be the base LT1 with the bigger tires and bigger brakes (likely standard Z06 brakes which are 14.6 / 14.4 inches)

There is a large market segment that would like better braking, grip, handling to go with the standard power.

Not gonna lie, I fully expect there to be a GS but I'd say 2-3 years from now to drum up sales of the Stingray. After seeing what tuners can do with headers and a tune on the LT1 I would bet 505HP will likely be close to the advertised power level of the base model. The GS models were a commercially successful tool to garner more sales of the C6, so expecting GM to not use that formula again is just silly.

But the wide body look is what most people want it for.
I guarantee if GM came out with a model that was all base care with an exotic look to it THAT car would sell the most.

GM still doesn't get what the public really wants in their vette....their close....their getting there....but not all the way.

GM has to offer the REAL DEAL first, before offering the "poser" version if needed to boost sales.
