Every time I look on this thread I realize there is not a bad looking car in the bunch, its like they are not 10's but 11's!

Birthday present from my fiance! Let the games begin...
My fiance is a smart man and knows that I can never go down in horsepower - so he knew it had to be the Z06! Spent my birthday zipping it through the Rockies with some photo ops. This weekend we'll see how she does at the track! Looking forward to hear from others how to get the most out of her. Brake fluid swapped out, next will be red interior accents and then we'll see where to go from there... pro-charger someday?
Sure, the mountains are great, but I prefer the view of the car...

Love those mountains, I've only flown over them. May I suggest searching "track" here on the Z06 site to get some ideas of what to do and bring. A must is get the junk brake fluid out of the car and replace with Dot 4 High temp fluid or your days may be short with a long brake pedal! I have posted my track prep sheet here for reference back in the spring. For novice drivers the car will be fine just have fun and know you WILL have one of the fastest most capable cars on the track, be respectful!

Yep, I would never run in the groups I run with without DOT4 or better in there! Not quite novice, but definitely not used to the level of "help" that the Corvette appears to offer (so many combinations of traction control/performance management in track mode!) I'm mostly curious about the alignment that the "official" track prep sheet recommends - have you found a difference with the "Chevy recommended" track alignment? I drive it on a regular basis and not sure I want to wear out tires quite so quickly.

Suggest to go into Track and leave all the nannies on it should be in Sport 1 then. The Chevy recommended Track alignment is probably a bit aggressive for mostly street use. If you have it aligned make sure they have the tools to check the rear caster or don't let them touch it. We run a very aggressive alignment at the track much more than GM recommends at Watkins Glen. If only tracking the car once or twice I wouldn't worry about to much, have fun!
Day 1, Session 1: ~70 degrees F, used track mode, sport 1 with auto transmission, overheated ("Engine overheating, idle engine" message) in about 11 minutes- not doing that again, auto transmission revs it way too high to stay cool.
Day 1, Session 2: ~ 80 degrees F, sport mode, no overheating but rpms stayed much lower, not as fun to drive- I definitely want track mode.
Day 1, Session 3: ~85 degrees F, used track mode, Dry with auto transmission (thinking the dry mode might make a difference - it didn't) - overheated message at 15 minutes.
Day 1, Session 4: ~80 degrees F, wet track, sport mode, no issue.
Day 2, Session 1: ~70 degree F, track mode sport 1 with manual shifting, this was much better, no overheating and new personal best lap time! I was careful to never go over 6000 rpm, and usually shifted around 5500 rpm.
Day 2, Session 2: ~80 degree F, track mode sport 1 with manual shifting, this is great.
Day 2, Session 3: ~82 degree F, track mode sport 2 with manual shifting, but let the rpms run up higher (shifting above 6000) and overheated 17 minutes in. Sport 1 had kicked in once or twice, sport 2 was nicely unobtrusive.
Day 2, Session 4: wet track, sport mode, no issue.
So it seems like I can "manage" it, but I am now on the hunt for some cooling assistance... I'd like to be able to do a full 20 minute session with shifting at higher revs if possible. The "overheating" sticky thread seems to have devolved to a comparison of Porsche's versus Corvette's - is there a more comprehensive discussion? What upgrades/aftermarket fixes are available to help? I'm switching it to 15w-50 oil this week and running it again next Saturday- any other fast and easy improvements I can do?
