My new Z06
Finally made it to bowling green over the weekend to pick up our new Z. Our museum delivery was Monday. I could've done it a little sooner, but wanted to time it right so that we could make it a family trip. My son was out for Christmas break, wife off work for Christmas, and father in law had a day or two he could miss so this timing was perfect.
We have sort of started "collecting" vettes in the last few years. We've traded a C5, and recently sold our C6, and are currently at 3, all very different cars, from drastically different eras. For me it's not necessarily about the latest and greatest, fastest straight line car . I buy for sentimental reasons, and I buy what I like. I am a 35 year old, self employed architect in Oklahoma, who happens to like corvettes. Our current others are a 1963 and a 1979. I'd say the '63 is still my favorite, followed closely by the 2015 z. My son turns ten this March and two years ago he and I started a new tradition of driving to Sebring for the spring lemans (now Tudor) race, for his birthday. ALL OF THIS TO SAY, THAT I AM NOT AN EXPERIENCED TRACK GUY and really don't care about the negative comments I've seen on this forum, so as the old saying goes, if you can't say anything nice.....(I'm not asking for an opinion, just giving you mine coming from a hard working guy who loves having fun with cars with his kid)...
So I personally appreciate the various driver modes, the ability to change settings in the middle of a drive. My c6 (a base coupe with mods), was pretty loud and while I loved the power and tone, the drone during highway cruising was no fun. Took my wife for a ride in the new Z today and even in track mode we were able to actually carry on a conversation inside the car. As my son said, it seems like track mode is when "all 650 horses are turned loose". Sport seems close, but much quieter. Touring is surprisingly quiet and smooth, about like my wife's Cadillac. Weather mode made me feel confident coming home through rain from Kentucky all the way thru Arkansas Tuesday. Don't plan to drive this car in crazy weather but if it does happen, I think it'd do just fine. Eco mode, well, I guess they call it Eco mode for a reason, really felt about like driving a Chevy cavalier.
The tech was a little overwhelming at first, but I quickly realized not much was different from the c6 generation. Actually the pdr is probably the only real difference. It is a cool feature, but not sure how much I'll actually use it unless we start taking the car to tracks (the nearest track is around 3 hours away).
The thing that I noticed most about the power is it seems remarkably smooth. A couple of times I punched it and instantly jumped tens of mph's. The fastest I've taken it was only 104 mph thus far . Keep in mind it's just now broken in, and almost all if those miles I had my son with me ....so didn't want to go any faster with the previous cargo onboard.
We got home late yesterday. We had the inaugural oil change done this morning at our local dealer, followed up with some darker window tinting. I've tried to involve my wife and kids in the ordering of this car, especially since the idea is to leave the cars to our kids someday. Wife picked red interior. My son picked the black wheels and the window tint darkness. Everywhere we went in it today heads were turning and phones were photographing us. It's crazy, this car is an instant celebrity. Ofcourse my son has already made me promise to take him to school the first day back, and wife is planning date nights for she and I.
So I guess to sum it up, it's an awesome ride, and we all in this household are all smiles. Oh and the neighbors (even the ones we haven't spoken to in years) have already been over to check out the new car.
Anyway, Merry Christmas and everyone have some fun with your family and friends this week!

Congrats.
Sounds like a great delivery trip you and your son (and the rest of the family) will remember for a long time.

PS. should edit the part where you make it a point to "talk down" a negative comment, relax... where do we live in Utopia? get over it already.

Thanks guys, and merry Christmas !
Spiffshady, which one was yours? Did you do the plant tour? I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to do the tour as the plant website said they were already on blackout. Granted, by this time I had done the public tour and buyers tour, but still seem to learn new things each time! It was great to see my son and father in law enjoy the plant as much as I did on the first trip.
