Default Z06 vs. McLaren P1.......

No contest! Ran the Z06 at COTA at a Chin Motorsports event; not one, but 2 P1's were there to run as well. We were fortunate enough to get close to one of them and thanks to the Z06's on-board PDR, we were able to catch him leave us in the dust on the straights. The P1 has just incredible, breathtaking speeds!

Enjoy!

If anyone is interested, I also posted the per lap data printouts from the Cosworth Toolbox that includes the outlap, a few laps and then a cool down. Sadly, oil temps and water temps steadily increased and after three laps, the ecu did its thing (manual transmission, air temp in the low 60s) Regardless, we still never would have gotten in the same zip code as the P1......

Chevy - please find a way to better cool the engine so it can be fully enjoyed without constraint on the track.......

Thanks for this great video. The P1 was lights out on the main straight.

Wow. However, it's a million dollar car against 100k.

Ron Dennis doesn't play.

I really need to move south! Great vid! The Z gets smoked on the straightaways and really seems to hit a wall of air at 130mph. It looked like you were faster through the corners though? Do you know what the lap time/top speed comparisons were? I know different drivers, you had a passenger, etc. but from the audio it sounds like you were having a great time. Congrats on the car and using it!

Hmmm, its a million dollar difference in price. Seeing the HP gains from some of the forum sponsors I am thinking the gap could be closed with some cash left over for lunch. Now who here has a wind tunnel to figure out the aero drag? BTW, as the saying goes" the P1 looks like a million bucks!"

That's really a sad state of affairs. 3 laps in 60 degree ambient and Z06 heats up like that. What were the GM engineers thinking when they designed this car? Most track capable Corvette ever???? Just sad.

Loved the P1 by the way, wicked fast on the straights.

They were thinking a Weeny sized supercharger that would be suitable on a V6, of the absolute worst efficiency, most high heat generating varieties of boost would be adequate because it cost them 50 dollars a Supercrapper instead of 3k for a real supercharger...and by real supercharger I don't mean anything Roots. You might as well just slap 2 four barrel carbs on it if you're going to go Roots.

"just spin it up more boys! wheewwwwwww here hold my beer!" -Gm engineers designing the LT4.

Honestly as brilliant as the LT-1 is of this generation... the LT-4 is as much of a dramatic failure by comparison. I doubt they'll be selling many LT-4 crate motors.

Wasn't to bad. If you hadn't missed that shift from second to 3rd going into the straights he wouldn't of pulled that hard. The P1 is indeed a hell of a car but you did catch back up and seemed about even lap times with him. Of course it is a drivers game and that course is indeed a drivers course.

Good times though. Great driving.

agree we are going to have some major problems come a couple of months if GM doesnt offer a fix.

I believe that with one of the "700whp packgs" that offer our supporting vendors it will be another story

But is a great video!!!

Thanks for sharing!

Nice!! Man, that McLaren is NO JOKE on the straights! But you kept catching him by the end of the lap.
I don't care for the color, but I wouldn't kick it out of my garage. lol

It was cool watching it's spoiler going up & down.

Thanks for sharing. Amazing driving and catching up the million dollar car.
Amazing straight line speeds from that hypecar. Bloody hell, that is what 50% more hp looks like.
Sad to hear about the overheating issue . Hopefully GM finds a quick cure.

FWIW - someone in the pits said that the P1 hit over 180mph at the end of the long straight - just over 30 mph than our best performance in the Z06 all weekend..... Felt like we were driving a stock Miata racing against a Z06!

Thanks all for the comments.

I'm curious about your Outlap oil temp.??? 252 seems really high for a car that's been sitting for about an hour. Oil temps rising 32 degrees over 4 laps doesn't seem too bad. .????? How long did you let it cool between sessions?
