Default The C7 splash guards on Z06

I have now picked up my Z06 A8= $3,025 option W/GGT and "I" would still of ordered it.

Installed the splash guards on the show room floor at the dealer this Tuesday and drove the Stage 1 home which was over 100 miles and "NO" stone chips on the side of the car. I also have aftermarket side skirts which still need to be installed.

SPLASH GUARD REPORT:

* No pics yet but IMHO they do not detract from the appearance of the vehicle. It's a draw at worst but I think the splash guards add slightly to the overall look.

Tools for install: One 7MM socket & ratchet wrench (that's it)

Installation:

* Remove the one 7MM bolt located on bottom, then I started at the bottom of each factory plastic guard and pulled straight out towards the tire to remove using only my fingers.

* I installed all by starting at the top and pushed the clips in. "Only" on the rear splash guards you have to remove the bottom "screw clip" from the factory guard and install it on the new rear splash guard.

NOTE: The stock factory ones have USA and the GM dealer C7 "splash" guards have made in China.

Thanks for the report! I am concerned over Stage 1 "Chip gate" too! My car is still 6 weeks out.

The factory does install the clear plastic in the vital chip area behind the door.

PS: Now that I have driven this car it truly is on a whole new level and I have not even broken the speed limit yet!

Yup, it's subtle but works... and an easy first mod to do! Did mine last Dec... to date, no road chips/rash due to the splash guards.

You have good taste (SG) does it have the carbon flash stinger hood stripe too? My car has gray center caps on the nickel wheels close to the color of the car from the factory.

I have them on my SG Z06 just a week old. Even on still a bit of a problem esp. with sand. Area most affected appears to be the area below and in front of the fuel door. Talked with Xpel installer who was critical of the area also. Will install xpel or Sunteck on the 9th. I think they look good and appear to add protection, but like I said not perfect for all occasions.

My set was delivered two days ago, car has +/- 75 miles on it. I'll install these in the next few days. No rush, it's too cold, too wet or too icy to get the car out. And the forecasts say it isn't going to improve any time soon.

Exactly why I ordered them with the car. That way they are installed at B G. Well worth the money imho.

I bought mine ahead of the build date (1/16/15) and my Chevy tech put them on during the PDI. It took him less than 15 minutes to do all 4. Look good and they work keeping the sides chip free so far, 725 miles on her

Hi nfran, is your car a stage 1 (no sideboards)?

stevestig, Yes I ordered Stage 1 due to constraints in Dec/Jan. Thought I'd put aftermarket splitter & side skirts on but kind of like the look so far.

One of the beautiful things about Shark Gray-many of the OEM pieces don't need painting to go with the color scheme.....unless you're going Carbon Fiber.

Default GMPartsDirect.com

Due to a number of PMs and to save others time looking for the vendor that I purchased from, it was GMPartsDirect.com

Thought I'd check on C7/Z06 man to see how these splash guards have been working for rock chip prevention?

I drove the car home 100+ miles from the dealer with just the splash guards, mostly interstate and no chips. Then the car stayed put till I installed aftermarket Z06 side shirts from ACS, part #45-4-029. Installed they look factory.

I painted the side shirts myself with a 12 oz. "spray can" of carbon flash metallic and then sprayed a can of clear over which I then sanded with 1000 wet/dry sandpaper and polished out by hand (no power tools used) using 3M 3000 extra cut compound. The end result matched the carbon flash on the car and the surface finish looks smoother than the shark gray factory paint. It was a PITA for me that took a lot of time. If there is ever a next time I will pay the extra to have them painted although I saved some cash.

The car now has 1200+ miles on it and so far I have not found any side chips. I do not think this will stop all chipping but so far so good. At 1500 miles (end of recommended break-in) it will be track time.

Note: Due to a sharp incline pulling into my driveway I had to remove the stage 1 front splitter but now after looking at it for a while and with the side shirts I actually think the car looks cleaner/leaner and maybe meaner (more muscular) than with the splitter on. I may get around to taking some pics to post down the road so you can decide.

Just my 2 cents.
I passed on the GM guards. Ok for the C7 but the Z06 has much more tire sticking out I think rear duct will still get chipped.
I bought the much bigger APSIS guards no picture yet.

I bought the Apsis Splash Guards as well. I had a local body shop paint them and my spats carbon flash metallic, car is currently at a detail shop getting a clear bra wrap, tints, ceramic coating and a carbon flashed metallic wrapped roof. Pics to follow after Saturday's pick up.
