76 hundredths is 3/4 of a second on an 85 second lap. If you ever did road racing you would know that 3/4 of a second is quite a gap. 2/10ths is starting to get close.

do over our rear alignment was off 2deg and that caused us to lose

inconsequentially we added a new suspension setting for this particular track.

seems legit.

And without any octane boost or a team of engineers present to prep the car this time?

Honestly, I'm just happy to see that it's competitive with a car costing $50k more. The new GTR will be a step ahead and progress will continue.

Winners = US!

The website has already been updated with the Z06 now in 2nd position overall. I predicted a 1:25:00 as this is in keeping with the capabilities of this car. I was looking forward to the track telemetry of this new lap but didn't see one posted in that article. The article mentions higher speeds in the straights and I suspect this was due to better corner exits. I would still like to know exactly how much of an advantage the GT-R had in the back straight as this still appears to be one Achilles heel of the Z06, relatively speaking. Heat soak also seems to be an issue with each subsequent lap losing a few tenths by their account.

I am pretty sure all of the 52 2015 Nismos have been sold. Not sure if Nissan is going to build a 2016 Nismo, as of a few weeks ago that was in question.
Here is what is impressive, IMO...
Nissan built a juggernaut with the R35 that has been punching above its weight since 2009. The Nismo is Nissan's attempt to build the very best, street legal GT-R model with the most available performance. The GT-R is a great car, even with minimal changes since 2012. The Z06 beat it around Willow. That is impressive to me, particularly considering they ran just as fast as the Nismo with an A8.

Default Motor Trend Redeems the Corvette Z06: Way Faster than Nissan GT-R

The good news for the new Corvette Z06 keeps on coming. Earlier we told you the supercar is making up 40 percent of all Corvette sales, and now, according to Motor Trend's recent Z06 retest at Willow Springs International Raceway's "Big Track", the Z06 (when equipped with a manual transmission) is faster than the Nissan GT-R NISMO.

This time the Z06 turned in a much stronger 1:25.00, heartily beating the Nissan GT-R Nismo's 1:25.70.

"Ask Tadge" Producer

I'm somewhat tickled to see Motor Trend acknowledge the information we're getting out of the "Ask Tadge" forum here on CF.

hat said, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter recently told Corvette fans the automatic transmission runs hotter and will go into a preservation mode sooner, so he recommends the manual for serious track duty or when the ambient temperature at the track is above 86 degrees. The high ambient temperature on our test day was 70 degrees.
That's not exactly what he said, but it's close enough.

It would have been nice if they ran lap times with just the alignment fixed also, just to see the difference from the softer settings.

I will say though, that the new times are more along the lines of what I was expecting since the NISMO was not even close to the ZR1 time at Laguna Seca.
Will they accept the Nismos time done with a factory supplied octane booster?

They had their engineers on site the first time...and plenty of octane booster.

They and Randy both knew something was amiss right off. Hence...

I am waiting to see what a Callaway Z06 will do, with the larger and more efficient supercharger.

Done after a fashion with the Viper so the precedent was already set.

They've got to keep the automakers happy as long as they keep throwing sufficient funding at them. That's why when Ferrari (who doesn't advertize) pulls crap like forbidding a Ferrari owner to let MT test his car against the P1 & 918, MT can write crap about Ferrari in the article.
