Honestly, I'm just happy to see that it's competitive with a car costing $50k more. The new GTR will be a step ahead and progress will continue.
Winners = US!

And a car that almost no one will be able to get in the USA....

You can laugh, but I am sure that the new lap times will not be accepted by web sites like Fastestlaps.com since it was not stock as you can buy it from the factory. Now if they decided to include it in the next production year or offer it as a TSB update (as snorman suggested) then the times will be accepted.

Scraping the splitter.
I am pretty sure all of the 52 2015 Nismos have been sold. Not sure if Nissan is going to build a 2016 Nismo, as of a few weeks ago that was in question.
Here is what is impressive, IMO...
Nissan built a juggernaut with the R35 that has been punching above its weight since 2009. The Nismo is Nissan's attempt to build the very best, street legal GT-R model with the most available performance. The GT-R is a great car, even with minimal changes since 2012. The Z06 beat it around Willow. That is impressive to me, particularly considering they ran just as fast as the Nismo with an A8.

Motor Trend Redeems the Corvette Z06: Way Faster than Nissan GT-R
The good news for the new Corvette Z06 keeps on coming. Earlier we told you the supercar is making up 40 percent of all Corvette sales, and now, according to Motor Trend's recent Z06 retest at Willow Springs International Raceway's "Big Track", the Z06 (when equipped with a manual transmission) is faster than the Nissan GT-R NISMO.
This time the Z06 turned in a much stronger 1:25.00, heartily beating the Nissan GT-R Nismo's 1:25.70.

"Ask Tadge" Producer
I'm somewhat tickled to see Motor Trend acknowledge the information we're getting out of the "Ask Tadge" forum here on CF.
That's not exactly what he said, but it's close enough.
hat said, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter recently told Corvette fans the automatic transmission runs hotter and will go into a preservation mode sooner, so he recommends the manual for serious track duty or when the ambient temperature at the track is above 86 degrees. The high ambient temperature on our test day was 70 degrees.

It would have been nice if they ran lap times with just the alignment fixed also, just to see the difference from the softer settings.
I will say though, that the new times are more along the lines of what I was expecting since the NISMO was not even close to the ZR1 time at Laguna Seca.

Seriously though, it's an interesting precedent for MT to set with a re-do like this. MT doesn't sell magazines - they sell advertisements, and GM is a huge customer. I love to see a Corvette win as much as the next guy, but how many times do you think other manufacturers have wanted this when they got edged out in a head-to-head?

They've got to keep the automakers happy as long as they keep throwing sufficient funding at them. That's why when Ferrari (who doesn't advertize) pulls crap like forbidding a Ferrari owner to let MT test his car against the P1 & 918, MT can write crap about Ferrari in the article.
