NewB gets a Z07 and needs tire help
I had a Z06 in Shark Grey with black interior on order, which was scheduled to be built later this year. Ironically my dealer had another similar car come in through another buyer, that deal fell through and that car became available last week.
I had to make a decision about purchasing this one and enjoying this summer in it, or waiting until next spring. This one has the Z07 pkg, and a red interior. I wasn't planning on the Z07 pkg, and I am not the biggest fan of red. But the thought of driving it this year ruled....
The red looks really tough with the red calipers and the red Z06 badging. I tend to be more reserved, but this might be a fun change.
The first thing I feel like I need to do is get tires more suitable for regular street driving. I may try to take the car to the track at some point, but for now this will be a weekend card for my wife and I.
That said, I would like to get tires for the Z07 wheels and save the Sport cup 2 tires for the track. I don't plan on driving in the rain, but if we do a weekend trip and end up getting caught in rain, I need something that will perform a little better and keep us safe.
I know there are a ton of threads on tires, but all the info is a little overwhelming. This is my first vette, and fist performance car, so I am learning. What should i buy?
Thanks in advance.

I was not a big fan of red interior either, but have seen many cars with it and have come to liking it. Good choice, enjoy today, who knows what comes tomorrow.

You mention saving the Sport Cup2's for the track. If you do intend to swap tires more than a time or two during the year, you might want to consider a wheel/tire/pressure sensor package like some of the forum vendors are offering. Much easier to swap tire-mounted wheels for tire-mounted wheels then it is to get tires dismounted, second set of tires mounted, and then a rebalance.
Congratulations on the new ride

I am in the same boat. New to all of this technology as last "race" car I drove was a c-3 and we didn't go very fast and slid a lot.
Early on I realized after I ordered the car with Z07 option that for me and road trips, I would need another set of tires. For me the best option was the Michelin super sports used on the Z06. I have the same concerns with rain while I am out on a trip so the Sport cup2's are sketchy from what i have heard. I posted a note that i just got a set of the MPSS tires from the dealer. It took 6 weeks at least. The fronts are available and came in faster but the rears are the problem. You might want to check with tire rack on availability and your dealer. I saw a very good thread regarding this somewhere on the forum, so search it out, it will be worth your time............bob
