the actual road looked to have a curve to it .. Can't believe traction control did not interfere before it got side ways. sucks.

unknown to the driver that launch control stopped controlling rear wheel torque after 1st gear... sad day. Video was kept under wraps for a couple weeks but it leaked i guess, so i just figured share it with y'all in full quality since there is junk quality floating around now anyway.

lol no sweat, not my car. The driver is actually much better than this video gives the impression. he also has a built c6z, which is much harder to control. it was a matter of confusion with the electronics and unexpected. I drove the c7Z as well and the traction control is so transparent when its on you don't even realize how much its doing. it was thought to be on in this and wasn't.

Wouldn't mind the drivers breakdown on WHY this happened. No apparent reason it should have.....

as i explained above, he was just caught off guard. it was first time with launch control, and so it controlled torque beautifully and transparently through 1st gear, shift to second all the sudden it was free wheel spin. It was just completely unexpected.
Everything the 24 hours before had us feeling like you could not get those damn sport cup tires loose. active handling was on, and IMO should have done correcting long before counter steer was necessary.
Obviously it could've easily been avoided, and was a silly expensive mistake... We all screw up occasionally and he was just caught off guard.
Basically expectations of the what the electronics would do were wrong. Personally being used to a built C6Z i would've been ready and expecting it, but if you haven't experienced that before during full throttle driving slamming through gears, you wouldn't be waiting for it to happen.

To use Launch Control, you have to be in Track driving mode and have one of the PTM Modes selected. Mode 5, which some are calling race, has every electronic assist turned off, so the driver is free to lose control with no help. Some other modes, 1-4, keep Stabilitrak on, while 1-3 also have traction control on to some extent.

Sorry to see such garbage video capture a Z06 crash.

Next time, find a road with no trees.

Good luck with the repairs.

LOL! yeah, i had the video in landscape (like a normal human) but i set my phone down to run down to help my friend when i saw him start to lose it. The videographer of this portrait one (mustang owner, figures!) took it this way and captured the whole thing, so this is what you're stuck with.

Why is it that at the most climatic moment of the video, they drop it and finish the video with an audible "Oh s**t"

I have experienced that before as when you take you foot off the gas it takes many milliseconds for the throttle to respond and thus if it is a 1 st to 2nd shift with tires spinning what you see in the video can very easily happen. Major GM engine calibration screw up as there isn't nearly enough engine braking on the manual cars and the delayed throttle response is a safety hazard.

1st: Someone needs to tell this guy that if he’s going to do a drag launch, he should first do a burn-out (if he even knows how) to warm the tires.

2nd: I’m really glad no one was hurt… this time. However, he basically got exactly what he deserved for pulling a stunt like this on a public road.

3rd: He needs to take a driving course to learn how to manage a 650/650 output drivetrain before he kills himself (or someone else). As good as they are, the nannies in the Z will not save a victim of Darwinian law.

4th: Someone, please tell this guy to TAKE IT TO THE TRACK if he doesn’t read this post.
