Default ACCIDENTALLY MOVED-NEW THREAD STARTED-Why would anyone choose Porsche over Z06?

Simple question. Any Porsche model except spyder. Am I missing anything? Aside from name of the Porsche vs the Chevy, it seems like Z06 will destroy every Porsche model out there, including turbo S in every department. Maybe not so much in interior, but who buys these cars for the soft leather.

Z06 overheating starts at post 783: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1588343939

It's hard to find brand defectors. Most true car guys I've met are pretty damn loyal to their favorite brand. The new vette probably has more allure to non-vette folks than in the past, but when I go to car shows, it's not like there are a bunch of Porsche, Ferrari, Viper or GT-R guys hangin' around the vettes. For that matter, I seldom venture over to measure d!cks with those guys either.

Personal and subjective preferences... I'd take a GT3 or Turbo S but the Z06 gives you so much for the buck it's a no brainer. Porsche's build & materials quality and performance engineering in chassis & drivertrain is IMO still a level or so better but the gap has significantly lessened.

I must be one of the brand defectors. Over the past 20 years I have owned five 911s and two GTRs. I am now ready for my new Z06 and can tell you I have never been this excited about a car before. I just GM can resolve their problems with the automatics so my order will go through.

I look at a car as a whole and not just performance numbers. And yes I buy these cars for the soft leather, etc and I actually like the interior of the Corvette over most Porsche's!

All in all the Z06 is better looking than any Porsche out there ( I haven't seen the 918 in person yet so let's leave that out), has loads of engineering & technology on top of the mind blowing performance, so I would take the Corvette (specially the Z06) over any Porsche!! Notice I did not even mention price!!

Same here, I had 2 Porsches (an M3 and AMG too) before and the Z51 C7 easily converted me. The new Z06 is icing. But I'm still a Porsche fan with my forthcoming Macan S in build status now. I'm not a brand *****... just a fan/enthusiast of many various performance vehicles. The new C7 ranks up there on the topshelf.

Not everyone compares cars solely by the numbers it puts up. Some people have emotional attachments to a brand. Some buy cars as a status symbol. Some buy cars because of the available aftermarket parts. Some buy a car solely for the purpose of picking up girls or to impress friends or family. There are far too many factors that wrap into why we choose one over the other.

I for one have had the love of cars since I was old enough to play with a matchbox car. I sell parts for just about every type of late model performance vehicle on the market. I take a week off of work each year to detail the classic cars going up on the Russo Steele Auto Auction block in Phoenix. I have owned all types of cars and not one person can convince me that one is "better" than the other (within reason, not talking about Pontiac Azteks here).

To a true enthusiast, sports/muscle cars evoke emotion and it's a beautiful thing. Maybe that's why I have never been able to come up with my own "dream garage" because there's just not enough time or space to enjoy them all.

@ the OP

I would take a Turbo 4S any day over the C7 Z06...and FWIW...a 4S will probably destroy a C7 Z06 in sheer acceleration off the line - you just can't compare RWD to AWD...

Sounds like the only thing you measure a car by is bang for the buck...but for me, and most serious car collectors/ owners, there's much more to it than that.

I could give a damn about that - the Porsche is a work of art with a serious quality build - as well as being a very serious performer.

0-60 (if that's how you want to measure it) goes to the Porsche...

So, how exactly does a Z06 "destroy" every single Porsche out there??

By the way, my FGT, which was only a bit more than a ZR1 when I bought it, will "destroy" a Z06 every single day...in every way, except price.

I would venture a guess that even a C7 Z won't touch my FGT's...and I have a 1000+ RWHP Z06 FWIW...

If that happens, or even if it doesn't, they'll do the same as always.
They'll continue to develop and improve. There have been recent hints from Porsche that hybrid-drive technology will be in the 911 Turbos at some point. Then GM will get faster, and then Porsche will get faster...and so it goes...

a z06 will never destroy a turbo s from a dig. in fact I doubt the z06 would cross the 1/4 first

......because the interior on the Porsche is superior and the suspension makes it a better daily driver?

Why would somebody buy a p car over a vette?

Maybe b/c that is what he wants. Which the reason I'm getting the Z - I want one.

The Turbo S will destroy the Z06?? LOL.....a few tenths of a second is called destroying? And even if it does, I sure don't care. And just because a car hooks up better off the line and gives you a better 0-60 time doesn't make it faster overall. Let's see them take off from 20-30 MPH or freeway speeds and see who is faster. Or let's see them go around a track and see who is faster. And then compare the sacrifice of handling vs comfort and ride and see which one is better.

And regardless of which is faster, I don't care because the Z06 looks soooo much better than any 911!!

And while I like the Ford GT's, your comment is absurd comparing a modded car to a factory spec car!! You lose credibility by doing that!!

And while Porsche does build a pretty solid car, this "build quality" is somewhat of a perception! I have seen dozens of Porsche's with either loose interior parts, cheap plastics, rattles and so on. Only people that think this are the Porsche Nut Huggers! You can even say a Honda Civic has "serious build quality" too. Anyways, looks like you like Porsche's and love your GT, so why are you even on here? You're talking sh*t about a car that's not even out yet!

often I agree with your posts, but not here. I don't see how any true car guy can be "pretty damn" loyal to any brand

I am ashamed to say how many Porsches I have owned through the years so I won't. I have owned 5 early Vettes as well and swore off them after 73, when quality issues to the extreme were present. This is a guy in the early years who thought St Louis was synonymous with heaven. Have not even entered a GM Dealership since that time. I'm back and have ordered a new Z06! The happenings occurred like this, entered the dealership with the intention of looking at a Z51, test drove it, then the wife said, why don't you order the new Z06 and I did! This is one that I am very excited about.

Well said :agree:

Are we really going down this road again.....

OP go buy a Porsche and you will find out why so many people are Loyal to the brand. You all crack me up with the Status BS, I would bet less than 10% of P-Car owners buy them for the "Status". Most mature folks do not buy cars based on Magazine times. There is a lot more to a car than Track times.

Why does anyone buy a BMW/Audi/Mercedes Coupe over a GT500??? Think about that for a second. Why do people buy a Lexus over a Toyota? Acura over Honda?
