Default A8 3-4 shift (not good!) **PLEASE HELP**

Hey guys,

I took my new 2015 C7Z to the track for the first time yesterday. It is an A8 and while it performed flawlessly at the track (I ran the car bone stock and did not install DR's), I am noticing today that the 3-4 shift under WOT is NOT good. It BANGS (shutters) into 4th (only under WOT) and I'm also noticing a small gear noise (whine) at around 60-65 mph. As soon as a let off the throttle it goes away. Almost sounds like it's a very faint rear axle gear noise? I'm guessing that these two things are probably related though. I will obviously call my dealer first thing in the morning, but can anyone give me any advice.

I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

John

Will do. I just wanted to know if anyone else had a similar issue or knew what it could be?

Thanks!

I hate to mention this but, I do hope you have over 500 miles on the Z. If not, well...

It's already been in for its 500-mile oil change and I was a very good boy for those 500 miles. She has 850 miles now.

I'd rather that it was the differential to be honest. Could the differential be causing both of my issues?

Will do. Does anyone know if the tranny "reflash/update" would address my abnormally hard 3-4 shift? Maybe I have two separate issues? Ugh.

My A8 tends to bang fairly hard in on the 3-4 shift at WOT as well. Funny, when I had it on the track it seemed to shift smooth and perfect. At one point I thought it might be do to a bit of traction issues on the street. I thought it might learn it's way out of it, but it still does it after 2700 miles.

I have a fairly early A8 car, so I'm planning on getting the reflash done the next time I take the car in.

You guys do realize you are driving a 650 HP racecar and you are complaining about a hard shift from 3rd to 4th?? I'd be complaining about a soft/slow shift.

It is not just a "hard" shift. It is a BANG! Does not feel right. This isn't my first powerful car.

Glad to hear it's not just mine. I'm taking in to the dealer this Thursday for the re-flash. Hopefully this fixes the problem. I just don't want to hurt anything. It really bangs into gear. Doesn't feel right.

Make sure they check diff fluid level as there have been some "problems" noted that some dealers were NOT checking during PDI and diff fluid was not at proper level. In fact, I might have them do a flush and replace of the fluid, and also the transmission fluid should be checked.

Thanks for the advice. I actually already had the dealer check the diff fluid at PDI since I saw a few others were having this as a concern. I just made an appt at my dealer to have them inspect the ring and pinion and flush the diff fluid. I will also have them check the trans fluid.

It is not a normal thing, it's actually a bang that shakes the car. Doubt it's the Diff, since it's confined to the one shift. All other shifts seem perfect.

The other day I ran it through and it felt much better. There could be some correlation to how hot the trans fluid is when you do the shift.

Either way I'm thinking the reflash will help as long as I have the old Trans tune. We'll see if it solves the issue.

**UPDATE**

Hey guys, my dealer reflashed my tcm last week and it appeared to fix my 3-4 shift issue. However, after about 200 miles, it's back! I haven't been able to tell if it only does it when the trans is warm, but I suppose this could be the case? I always make sure the car is up to operating temp before going WOT. It sure seems like this is a programming issue since it went away for a few hundred miles? Has anyone else had this happen? I would like to go in armed to the dealer. By the way, they are ordering me a brand new rear differential to fix the whine coming from the differential. Obviously, I am not the only one with this issue as the part is now on national back order. UGH!
