Dumb question about engine revving at idle
I almost hate to even ask this, but I was at a car show earlier today and a few people really wanted me to rev it up before I parked. I did and noticed for the first time it will only rev to 4K rpm. I have an A8 by the way. Is there a way around this? Not a big deal but it would've been kinda fun to really let her bark. The damn car had a crowd around it and I was parked right next to a new Hellcat Challenger. Here kitty, kitty, kitty.....
Thanks guys!

Obviously someone who hasn't gone on an assembly plant tour. You can hear everyone of the Z's at the assembly plant when they are started for the first time over the Stingrays. They "bark" and the assembly plant folks make sure they can. The once in a while throttle "blip" at a car show with the engine warm or at least semi warm and oil pressure up, IMHO, will do very little damage, if any, compared to a bone cold first start up. Would I do it every day, hell no, but like they say "if ya got it, flant it." And I hope to keep the "kid" in me alive and well as long as possible.

I have an A8 too. They say the exhaust opens (barks) at 3500 rpms. If what you say is true than GM programed a good thing.

Where did you hear that? Most automatic vehicles have a low rev limiter while not in gear to protect the torque converter from a red-line slip shift. Nothing to do with the supercharger.

Tell an old neighbor who love to rev his engine. It coughed and stalled and next thing the wreaker was there to get it. The car never returned.
Revving an engine is needless and serves no purpose.
I always heard it was bad to rev a engine. It has no load.
I hear someone revving the engine I think idiot right away.
But I guess different strokes for different .......

Dear Lord. You guys are funny how you can take something and run with it. It was an honest question. And thanks for calling me an idiot for revving "my" engine once or twice a YEAR! Geesh. Don't worry about buying my car. It won't be for sale for a very long time!! Not all of us are kids with daddy's car, guys. I've worked my whole life for this car. I wasn't asking for anyone's approval. Just wanted to know "why" the car would only rev to 4K? Nothing more.

Rev it up, won't hurt the engine As long as the oil is somewhat warm. No load, no nothing, Engine doesn't care. Don't sit there & bounce it off the rev limiter like some silly guys do... A dyno pull to redline puts a lot more stress on the engine.
I believe most autos will not let the engine rev past a certain number to protect the trans. I'm not sure if it's the torque converter or what, but I believe this is pretty common.
