New car has been shipped. Am I price protected?
I placed an order for a 2016 Z06 with a local dealer on 6-18-15.
I was assigned an order number that day.
There was a price increase of about $700 around 7-17-15.
Invoice received today is showing the new price.
This happened to me last year and the dealer charged me the original price (not the current invoice) then submitted some form to GM for explanation. That was the way it was described to me.
The manager who makes those decisions at the dealership is on vacation and I couldn't get an answer today.
Do you think I am price protected on the price on the original order?
Car is shipped and should arrive by Thursday.

I placed my order July 2nd. It was accepted on July 16 and I just got my car today. I got with a price increase of around $1500. My buddy is the GM at my dealer and showed me my invoice and a invoice of a 2016 he got a couple of weeks ago equipped the same way.. I guess I missed the cutoff by a couple weeks..

Well not really. Read the contract if indeed there ever was one. The price is what is on the invoice from GM.... Very easy to verify and doubt it is the Dealer.

It is up to the dealer. They can honor the pre price increase and submit for exception to GM, just like they did last year. If he put in the order post around 7/17 then yes he will get hit with the price increase.

He didn't say he had a contract, but if he did, the dealer should honor it. I have a car on order, I have an order number, but it is arguable whether or not I have an enforceable legal contract. A contract obligates both parties, and I may not not want to be obligated.

He said he placed an order. So you're telling me I can just walk into a Chevy dealer and place an order without signing anything?

Most dealers will have you sign SOMETHING when they take an order, but it is rarely a contract that binds them to much because too many things are out of their control. They want the buyer to think that they are bound....they want a deposit, but dealers (and the NADA) are very good at protecting themselves and their bottom lines.
