Default Second fastest car ever to go around VIR in Car & Driver's Lightning Lap

Well the C7 Z06 just laid down the gauntlet. Second fastest car ever to go around VIR in Car & Driver's Lightning Lap. The first place car? The ~$850,000 Porsche 918

That 1.4 sec difference comes at a pretty hefty price.

Also, a GM engineer laid down a 2:41.32, making it the fastest time a street legal production car has EVER gone around VIR.

So they ran a Hyundai, but couldn't run a C5Z around the track? I imagine it would have faired well.

Would the difference between the viper TA and the Z06 be smaller if the viper was equipped with the same tires as the Vette? Just asking.. Lol

I wish they would have brought a Viper again this year. That is a great time for the Z06 and it would have been nice to see what the Viper ACR or TA 2.0 would lay down.

Porsche was driven by a media guy, Z06 driven by Mero who is paid to drive Corvettes backed by data and a team....big difference.

Incorrect - all C&D lightening lap times are driven by the C&D team and those are the only times we are comparing .... go back to your hole

Nope. Jim Mero was just there to answer questions. He laid down 2.41 when GM rented the track for private testing several months ago. C&D ran the 2.44. I know this because I took a few seconds to read the article posted above.

Now that is a fantastic lap time by CD, and even better for Mero.

Wow!

Very impressive performance achievement!!!

lol, the C&D drivers aren't all that great, watch some of the videos. They barely know how to make it around the track in some of the vehicles.

The only real issue with VIR is that they have so many configurations it seems it is hard to compare lap times from one run to another. But it is nice that VIR is becoming an east coast "go to" spot.

Well in the case of the Z 2:44 in a 100 degree temperature is very impressive and even Mero said that would be about 2 seconds faster in the 45 degree lap that he did. So that is pretty near pro level time.
