Does the Nürburgring even matter?
I love this car and for every one negative comment there are hundreds of positive ones. Haters will continue to hate and be jealous and loyalists will continue to make excuses. Lighting Lap is a prime example.
With that said, does is really matter what the Z06 runs at the ring? Believe me, I want to know, but no matter the time ran, the haters will still hate and the homers will still make excuses.
Until then, I will continue to enjoy this Awesome vehicle.

Each of you are correct. GM does use Nurburgring to test and validate their performance vehicles. Cadillac, Chevrolet, etc.. No problem with that, many manufacturers do so.
That being said, the reason why "it matters" to the Corvette enthusiast, is that Chevrolet made a specific decision to market and advertise the new Z06, using the Nurburgring. Even GM knows the marketing value of this track. At the vehicle unveil, there was only one track displayed on that vast wall. It was also mentioned numerous times. That same Nurburgring graphic has also been displayed at various other national auto shows, in order to market this particular vehicle. Then we have Tadge announce they finally have results, and are happy with the results...and then go radio silent on them?
If you are going to hang your brand on a specific road course, and market the product around a specific road course, then it only makes sense that the consumers understand why. They deserve to know the results. Otherwise, credibility is challenged, like we are seeing now.
This is why "it matters". Notice the track layout on these walls?

I've always wanted to know the lap time myself, but, I don't care if it never gets released anymore. No matter what it is, it really has no effect on how my car brings me joy every time I drive it.

Well, a great Nurburg time might help solve the California drought problem with all the tears some of our west coast posters would be shedding. But otherwise, agree with OP.

I don't think any1 can really deny wanting to see ring times and how the car really measured up to its comp there...that being said, Id agree just for bragging purposes. Lightning lap is not really a good example either

Anyway, long term waiting for Chrismas presents was painful for the same reason when we were kids.
And yes, there will still be idiots and the like in the world even if the
GM, and a C7R driver realllly nailed it, but, we will know! And the car will at last be validated at the gold standard production car distance track.

You were pretty adamant about it happening last winter when we meet at our Cars and Coffee?

Do you spend this much time in the C5 Forum?

Yes and No!
The new cars do it and it is essentially a race about what I, and I dare say we, care about, The State of the Art!
And no none of the above applies to the C5, of course! Shopping if you will!

You didn't know?
The original late model C5 Z06 in 2001 was riddled with some issues:
The rings were too loose where it was using oil and blowing it out the back of the car.
The clutch pedal would stick down because clutch powder was getting by the O-ring.
Validate it GM! We love our Corvettes!!! And thanks Jack!

I have that reaction to a lot of his posts. Much of the time I don't even know whether or not I agree with him.
IMO, yes the Ring time does matter. It's been a measuring/comparison point for the world's best cars for quite some time and I'm mystified as to why GM hasn't come forth with the time for the C7 Z06. As has been said countless times, it just doesn't add up.

Not to me! What a tength of a second will mean? Absolutely nothing since so many factors are involved! Temp, wind, engine, fuel, driver, etc....

I would say that yes it does matter. They now have a deep base of engineering data to draw from since they started testing over there. Like any top racing series that uses previous lap data from prior years, they know if they are making progress in their new developments. Plus, the two biggest hurdles for European respect of American cars is the Nurburgring lap time and the 24hr of LeMans. And Corvette has been kicking butt on both as of late. After this last test you know that McLaren, Lambo, and especially Porsche are paying attention to the Lightning Lap. The US market is too critical for them not to !!

I wonder why GM has had the camo'd 2017 Camaro at the Ring, if it don't mean squat to anyone?
Since many of you don't care about the Ring, maybe GM should just time their products around the Sonic.

A benchmark is a benchmark. Whether one personally hits or even attempt to match it is irrelevant.
The Corvette has used the 'Ring on the last three Hi-Po variants of the Corvette so there is a history and protocol that should be followed. Also not releasing times just adds fuel to the fire of negativity since they have already been there twice with the new Z.
