Z06 with no garage?
Hey guys, I'm wanting to get a Z06 within the next 6 months...however, my wife and I have another 12 months on our duplex lease.
We have a covered parking area, but it's not a garage? We know all of our neighbors as well. Neighbors have Cadillacs, BMW, Mercedes, etc. I don't think vandalism would be an issue. I'm just concerned about what people have said about paint damage.
What have you guys done for those who don't have a garage to park your Z in? Is it stupid to park it outside under the covered parking?

It's not going to melt if it gets a little rain on it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would get a cover thought to keep birds from pooping on it.

Better to have a garage. At least you have covered parking. Depending on the area you live in, vandalism may be an issue.
BTW, it is about a 100k car, not 80-90k, unless you get a stripper.

It will probably get a lot of swirls (small scratches) in paint.
Personally would opticoat and rinse off any bird poop asap.
Accept that outside paint is going to get flaws, drive it and be happy and accept flaws as "patina"
It would be hard for me to do. But I would not put a cover on each time and also I would be aware of the risk of vandalism.
Some a holes like to key Corvettes and I would hate to have your new vette get keyed.

oh yeah if you can rent enclosed parking then you could do that as well maybe?
I have done that a few times when my stable was too big but could not pass up another cool ride due to a good deal.
I would think you were just a dude who won't drive a crappy car if you left it outside. Nothing else.
One of the coolest car guys I know ( and with a lot of discretionary income) drives his 400k Black Ferrari through a full on brush full touch automatic car wash.
It's his driver and I think that's awesome.
Rock On!

Back in the day when I had a nice car but still rented. I would rent a garage close by and drive my second car over there to get it.
No house, No second car, no garage wait on the Z06.
I would not buy a z06 to sit out even with a cover which out door covers suck IMO!

Since you're asking for opinions, I'll offer mine. I think vandalism is the main concern. Make your best guess as to what you think the odds are for where it will be parked. I would not put a cover on it every day for the same reason 2014C7 stated. I like the idea of some kind of coating to help protect the paint from minor incidents. I'm assume you aren't expecting it to stay 100% pristine.

They don't sell "stripper's'
EVEN a 1lt is not stripper. With hud and mag ride and same interior
Where is the stripper part? Then with the front spoiler which you will break sooner or later on the street. I would not buy that silly looking model with a stupid looking tall spoiler on the back and front low which are both slower on the highway!
100k on one is a waste!

When I was expanding my shop my C6Z (Velocity Yellow) was one of the two unforunate cars that had to sit outside for a winter. It took some serious detailing in the spring - even has green moss growing on them (Seattle)!
Once cleaned and detailed, however, the car was no worse for wear. The only thing I ever wondered about was the amount of white residue that would accumulate on the cheap vinyl dash and door panels of that car - it always scrubbed off but it was annoying.
So, as long as you're covered and keep it waxed, I think you're fine.
Now the advice you don't want to hear - own your own home before your own Z, garage or not!

As long as the parking spot is covered I wouldn't worry about it and I'd go ahead and get the Z06. My biggest worry would be bird bombs and the covered spot would prevent that.

Scraping the splitter.
No its a 80-85,000 dollar car most people load with garbage.

The front splitter and rear wickers are functional, even if somebody doesn't like the look. Honestly, I didn't like the look at first, but after having them on my Stage 1 car for 3-4 months I like them. And it's hard to argue that they don't work on-track.
Either way, no bad choice when optioning your car the way you want it.

I don't have a garage on my house (don't get me started) so I bought a portable garage from harbor freight and have it in a rear parking area behind my house. Works great and holds up to strong winds. I was very happy to get it covered. Only issue I see is when the temps start to drop but I will cross that bridge when I get there. Good luck!

That is your opinion... Just like most people would look at a car like yours and say its stripped down or a poor mans ZO6... But each to own...Word to the wise..some things don't need peoples 2 cents

Get the car. I don't have a garage or a covered space. Got a good car cover and my Z looks as good as anyone's on here after 9 months of this supposed abuse. Same with my C6 after 4 years. I'm in Florida though, so I don't have to deal with snow and ice.
Cover takes about 30 seconds to remove and put on, so no problem at all.

Awesome! I'm in TX - so don't have to deal with any snow either and it's covered, etc...the only thing I'd be worried about is vandalism.

I didn't even think of that, that's a great idea I need to check local garages. Did you rent like a storage unit type garage?

This little Gm option "might"...help on the vandalism side. Gm sells a lock system for their covers. It's on the vette option list. It is a small lock with a cable system ( I think) that runs through the lower edge of the cover ...cost 15 bucks...at least it was in 2015. If they can't lift up the cover to get at the car, they "might" not be so inclined to scratch it etc...maybe. Granted if someone wants to bad enough there's not much one can do. A guy went to kick in my taillights and scratch up my 74 once. It was parked in the single spot right at the front door of the bar I worked. Under blazing light with people there. He kept making snappy comments all night re the car. I didn't say a word. Until he said in his snit what he was going to do. So just goes to show you. He was removed with the threat of me kicking him in should my car end up damaged in future.
