Default Z06 X-pipe in Cali

Seriously thinking of installing an X pipe on my '15 Z. Living in the Communist republic of Cali, other than a visual, with this get past an emissions test?

It'll pass an OBDII scan check, no clue about a sniffer test though (not sure if CA has those...some TX counties do, but luckily not mine).

It will be 6 years before your first annual inspection. Hard to get under a car for visual inspection, and a sniffer cant smell the difference between pipe.

If it goes behind the cats you should hopefully be ok.

The Corsa Helixx (X-Pipe) replaces the secondary catalysts, connects from the primary cats to the mufflers' tubing. The "check engine" light will not turn on.

Default C7 Z06 has a H pipe??

Maybe someone more knowledgeable that me can tell me why in heck this new Z would have a H pipe versus a X.......

When the C6 went to a X it sounded better, and picked up some HP and torque..

Could it be a reason to drum up more sales in a few years like with the C6?

It also means there is a decent chance you may fail smog in CA unless you swap out before then, but you probably have lots of time before that becomes an issue.

I live in cali
I sell and install the pipe
No codes
My buddy has a smog shop and visually you can't see th cats cause plate is under.

My car passed the sniffer with the x pipe cats removed. I also posted pictures of 2nd cat internals. They don't do much.

Also smog is not until 6 years after year of car in cali.

If you fail SMOG, put it back on.

I'm not expert on this, but after I've seen how the supercharger/intake area looks like after few hundreds miles without a catch can in five years this car may need new cats, intake valves cleaned, and who knows what else.

It has been a very long time since I kept a car long enough to worry about SMOG checks, but I thought in 2013 they changed the system so cars model year 2000 and newer don't need the sniffer anymore and it was all OBDII checking + visual.

Yes, here it is:

YOU are correct.

The shop by my house uses a mega flashlight, and looks for cats, O2 sensors, and all other emissions equipment.

In the past C5 and C6 people had issues with their catch cans, CAI, and specially with the Vararam.

All C7's have a X-pipe stock, but it has two secondary cats just before the crossover which is what people want to eliminate.

I too was assured by my local smog station, when they tested my Z06 after my NCM delivery, that a cursory visual and a hook up to the ALDL (OBDII - diagnostic link under the dash) is all that is required by DMV. And, like Norcal SS said, we Calif folks have 6 years before any smog tests are required.

Then I guess the only issue is driving it with the CEL light on, before swapping it back to original for future emissions testing

There is no CEL light. I've sold over 60 x pipes now for the c7 z06s and installed many including mine. The corsa x pipe WILL NOT throw any codes since it's behind the last 02 sensors

If swapping over the mid (X) pipe will trigger the CEL, that in itself, will be a deal breaker for me. I'm too type A to deal with that. I would think that would be a "warranty work red flag" too. Glad I type so slow, gave NORCAL time to dispute the CEL issue.

Midpipe no but the main cat delete kit it will. That being said customer that I cut the cats on his z06 and put corsa x pipe on put 1k miles on his car and wanted to see if power went down since people say yiu need a tune. He went back on same dyno yesterday NO TUNE and with cat delete kit which got rid of all 4 cats he made 17rwhp/20 torque over his stock dyno line figures (made 13/15 right after he installed it and shop was 10 degrees hotter than baseline pull)

The cel light comes on in about 300 miles and he has my gauge which clears it in 7 seconds (gauge om.releasing shortly will be pretty sweet it does it all) this is due to.main cats cutting off.

Im going forward on my plan for the main cat delete kit and from then on out I will work to see which cel simulator tricks the computer into thinking cars are still there.

Stock z06
Corsa x pipe
Cut main cats
17rwhp/20 rwtq

Plus you can get oem cat pipes and swap them in easy it's not like headers.
