Z06-read this rear brake intake damage-GM resolution!
Noticed front leading edge damage to CF rear brake intakes from road dirt, sand, and debris being hurled at this intake part probably from front tires as they rotate and turn.
Took my 2016 to my dealer this morning and he referred me to GM Chevrolet Customer Service.
Please...everyone who is having this same issue.....do the following ASAP.
Call......"Caroline" Manager Customer Service her personal line is:
1-866-790-5600, her extension is.....5913483.
She will gladly take all your info regarding this engineering snafau and begin the process to resolve it. I explained that all Z06 owners are having this same leading edge damage, and several forum members are using black electrical tape (including me) as a temporary fix to prevent further damage.
They will ask you for:
Your Name
Dealer name where you bought your Z06
How long have you had your Z06
Last 8 digits of your Vin
Mileage
When did you see the damage occurring
Are you the original owner
Your phone number
What do you want Chevrolet to do about your issue to resolve the problem for you
Advised her that several Z-06 owners are buying skirts, and mudflaps from vendors to head off or reduce this damage. I explained it will not get better or go away, only get worse. I saw this after two tanks of gas the first week of ownership on my Z06.
So, now we have a route to complain and explain what you are experiencing with your Z06 and she was extremely interested and professional in finding out the cause and getting repairs/re-engineering and or resolution to satisfy each owner.
So, maybe we have an avenue now to get something done at GM's expense and not ours. I explained when a Corvette owner/buyer spends $90,000.00 plus on a new car as a Z06 he/she should not be having these kind of issues the first several days of new car ownership.
So guys....I would like all Z06 owners to please call her and advise what issues you have and how you would like them resolved.
I told her that I want new intakes furnished and installed under warranty, but I also want engineering to look at this issue on all Z06 Vettes and supply us with the appropriate parts to fix it permanently......
I was assigned a Case Number and she will write a letter and advised me that I need to give her at least 72 hours to contact my dealer and get their inputs too.
So we shall see....but the main thing I hope all forum members do now is get on the phone and ring her bell and get things moving...if enough owners complain about this same issue...I feel that resolution is in our favor....just don't know what the time frame will be.
The main Number is 1-800-222-1020...Customer Assistance, after spending a few minutes and describing our problem, I was transferred to Caroline and the buck stops with her.
So, lets get everyone bugging them and get new intakes hopefully installed and maybe Chevrolet will develop the necessary parts to prevent this intake edge damage in the future.
Let's get some input after you make your calls and see if we can get a major push started there on this issue and get something done instead of being told it is what it is.....!!

Not only does the road debris hit the intake back there, it's literally sandblasting the rear quarter panel above that intake. This is old news. The Sport Cup 2's make it even worse since they have the consistency of bubble gum and they pick up gravel and hurl it.

Mine already show signs of wear with 800 miles. I plan to have added paint protection done to lower halfs of rear quarters once it warms up. The lower rocker area has paint protection from factory.

Been happening since 2006. Talked to some GM engineers at Carlisle to no avail. Good luck but I don't think you'll get anywhere.

This damage has been occurring on Corvettes for years without any resolution. The only way to stop the damage is to change the design of the car so there isn't a clear path from where the tread of the front tire leaves the ground as the car is driving forward. Dirt takes a tangential path from that point directly to the quarter panel, lower door and rockers if there is no side skirt. The rockers are about the only thing protected by the side skirts.
This is a picture taken with my iPhone with the lens in the rear brake duct. I have the West Coast Corvettes extended mud guards on the car (they are shown with the green tape). Black outside of the green tape is tire and to the inside is the body of the car. The red arrow shows there is nothing blocking the path from where the tire is on the ground all the way back to the inside of the brake duct. That means anything in that area will get hit with debris. The grainier the pavement is in your area the worse the damage. Southern States seem to have a grainier asphalt than Northern States (don't know why but there probably is a good explanation) and that stuff just pulls out of the asphalt and flies back at the car.

Eh? Is this not exactly the same issue as 2015s? Is this not the area with the factory paint protection? Has this not been tackled already...think so.
GM Customer Service right.... perhaps the title should be changed as it is a bit misleading. A complaint has been submitted...there is no resolution or even investigation started, and certainly no recognition of any engineering snaffu.

Just the need to get side skirts and you shouldn't have any chips or issues.
I had ACS side skirts installed at delivery and no issues.
over 14,000 miles and no chips on either vent no issue here!
Stage 1 car with side skirts. Plus they look better than without!

I only have 540 miles on mine, and I can hear everything the front tires pick from the road hitting from the door to the 1/4 panel. I'm think about the paint protection film for the whole front, flares, and 1/4 panels.
I see some of you have the flares/skirts with splash-guards and also experience this issue.

After GM refused to acknowledge the valve guide problem with the C6Zs, I doubt if they will be handing out replacement vents to all ZO6 owners. The gal is just pulling your leg. As mentioned, this has been going on since 06. The first week I had my 16, I installed Apsis guards and Suntek protectant film, same thing as my 08.

Good stuff! My dealer -- Paul Masse in Providence, RI -- took care of this under warranty about a month ago. No problem. Even applied Suntek at their cost.

Most misleading thread title I have read so far in 2016!...lol...
The expected GM response reminds me of the first episode of the Office where Michael gets handed a tax notice from Kim and puts it in his IRS file drawer (that is, he crumpled it up and windmilled it into the garbage).
