Default Z06 vs ZR1

Has anyone who owns or has driven a C7 Z06 driven or owned a C6 ZR1? How do the two compare? I'm looking for more real-world opinions (on the street) as opposed to on the track.

How does the acceleration compare between the two?

How does the acceleration feel between the two? (butt-dyno)

What felt faster or crazier?

Which car was more fun to drive?

I keep flip-flopping back and forth between wanting the C7 Z06 and wanting the C6 ZR1.

I know the ZR1 is a bit cheaper - I say a bit because I've seen C7 Z06's going for mid to high 70's whereas I still see ZR1's going for 70. For that amount of money it isn't a huge difference in price.

The only thing I love so much more about the C7 than the ZR1 is the upgraded interior.

So what do you guys say?

I have read several threads in this C7 ZO6 section that compared the two. Search ZR1 in this section.

I owned a 2012 ZR1. I currently own a Z06-Z07. As for seat of the pants feel, I think they are about the same. Z06 is nicely more updated especially with its electronics and tech. The ZR1 is a little more raw but has the LS9 and a bit more carbon fiber. When you consider what you have to spend on a new Z06 equipped to the level of a ZR1, the price difference grows and if price is an issue, the ZR1 is a great buy. If not, you'll likely be more comfortable with a Z06.

Both are great, but the C7z is so different as far as the ride steering and braking, not to mention a different car inside out that it seriously dates the C6z and ZR1 so much that you cannot go back to the C6. I have had them both.

My C6z was supercharged and had more power than the ZR1 and my current car.

I would not have bought a C6.... I am sorry, it just didn't speak to me. The first time I saw the z06/z07 car with stage 3 aero, I was sold.

That's exactly what I did man. I typed in ZR1, "ZR1" and Z06 vs ZR1 and in the first 3 pages I saw nothing in the thread titles mentioning ZR1s. I don't know.

I actually love the looks of the C6 vettes. Even though the ZR1 looks very similar to the base C6 it also has many subtle differences. I think it looks great.

The C7 when I first saw it didn't do a whole lot for me. It took some time for it to grow on me but now I'm in love with the looks.

The one thing that holds me back on the C6 is the interior - which wasn't that bad to me until I saw the C7 interior

This may help, go to advanced search. Select Titles only under the search for field. Then select the sub forum that you are wanting to look at. For example search the c7 z06 forum for the term zr1. And the zr1 for c7 z06. Make sure that "All Forums" is deselected.

That process is how I usually search. Anything beyond that returns so many useless threads its pointless. Good luck!

And, I don't have a problem with you asking.

I was actually thinking about this very thing earlier today. I was looking at some slightly older exotics from the mid 2000s with low mileage. The interiors all looked so pathetic and dated compared to even a base modern car. Its interesting how quickly styling cues, and expectations change.

For example.

OP you can't go wrong with either car, I had a ZR1 and now the C7Z07.
If you really want to get confused post this same question in the C6ZR1 section too.

Owned 2010 Sebring Silver ZR1 - was fantastic car; until I actually drove my 2015 Laguna Blue Z06 and really NO COMPARISON!

ZR1 had significant lag when I tromped the accelerator, but when it finally kicked in was AWESOME seat of the pants feeling.

Z06 instant on BABY!

Of course, just my $.02 centavos worth opinion.

There will always be something newer, faster better. Pick what you like and have fun. I haven't driven a new Z06 but my ZR1 is enough for me right now. Also, I like that it's a little more rare.

Enjoy!

I've got both. I posted a review of the new Z compared to my ZR in post #125 in this thread:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-a-c6-zr1.html

That was shortly after I got my new Z, but looking back at the post, it remains my POV.

There is plenty of threads to read on this one.

Of course the new car is better in most areas but the old car is still a sweet ride. I had a ZR1, Z06 and 2105 Z06 at the same time. Then decided to sell one car.
The ZR1 is gone and held it's money well. For the 2 years I had it.
The 2015 is awesome. With many improvements. There is some low mile bargain's on those to had.
