Default Coolant mixture

I know it's been discussed 1 million times in this forum however I seem to not be able to find it.

My question is, What are people running in regards to coolant mixture for track preparation? 60/40 water:antifreeze? Straight antifreeze?

We cracked our intercooler and will be replacing it today so figured I would do a different mixture rather than what came in it.

I honestly want to run straight distilled water but hear it's a big no no as the antifreeze GM uses has some type of lubricant in the antifreeze that is necessary? Not sure how accurate that is.

Factory fill in supercharger is 60/40 water to anti-freeze. I have seen that info in print at the dealer. Depending where you live (year round climate) I have read on here 65/35 may be good but here again 80/20 water to anti-freeze may be the ticket but I would use "distilled water" for the water to keep things as clean as long as possible. I would also pre-mix so that the mixture is right no matter what the final amount is that you finally get into the system.

Thanks all for the help.

I seriously recommend for you track guys to do some sort of mesh to protect the cooler. This was and still is a long process to replace this.

I have a question for you because I may be doing this soon. What is involved to take just the front end cover off being it's fresh in your mind. Thanks

The front bumper itself is actually not that bad. We did have a front splitter on it so that took time and you do have to take the liners off so the bumper releases. There are also a good bit of fasteners and bolts as can be expected so just take your time. If you are doing anything with the coolers or condenser or radiator then that will take the most time.

Tried using premix coolant, it also works great. Brand I used was Motul.

That's what I do. 1-gal of Dex-Cool, and the rest distilled or deionized water.

Here in SoCal temps go to extremes (sometimes 40°F) during the night on the short winters we have.

Isn't that what water wetter is for?

You could run 80/20 water/coolant or if you don't think the car will be out in temps below 32 deg you could run straight water, add some water pump lubricant and water wetter. Water wetter works better without antifreeze in the mix.

It isn't just the Dexcool that GM uses, all antifreeze contains water pump lubricant. I don't know whether the national discount auto parts stores carry water pump lubricant but before they started ruining the auto parts business you could pretty much buy it at any auto parts store.

Is there any type of purging process that needs to be done?

We filled it at the supercharger since the main overflow tank was full. the small tank on the lower right in front of the car we drained since that connected directly to the intercooler. It only took about a 1/3 of a gallon and filling at the supercharger, directly filled it.

I realize this is months later so I guess you guys have realized the supercharger intercooler circuit and the engine coolant circuits are separate!
