New '16 or '15?
After a long absence from having a speedy car, I have decided to rejoin the family. I have convinced my girlfriend this a great idea as we'll buy a lightly pre-owned, and save a bunch of money. As the last few days have gone by, I am starting to wonder how factual that is.
I have been going through the forum the last few days trying to see what people are currently paying for cars. I am seeing talk of as much as 15K of MSRP?
I found the car I would like on Ebay asking 90K. It's a 2015 Conv., 1450 miles, auto, 3LZ with carbon package.
For those professional negotiators here on the forum, what would you be offering for this with a 90K asking. Is 80K dreaming? 85K?
I am in small town along the FL Panhandle, so very doubtful I can find a pre-owned car I will not have to have shipped, so I am guessing an extra $1K for that (I have been pouring through dealer websites as far as 500 miles away and found nothing so far) whereas if I go with a new one, I can just drive 5-6 hours in several directions, pickup a new one, and drive it home.
Should I expect to save a huge amount of money (say over 5K) trying to find/buy an under 5K miles 2015 that would have to be shipped, opposed to buying a new one I can go pickup?
Thanks for any solid input from those who have recently made a purchase.

I like some of the features on the '16 that the '15 doesn't have. It has the cameras on the front for parking and my coupe has the auto-pull-down latch to close the hatch.
A big thing for me in getting a new car is that you get the 2-day Spring Mountain Corvette Owners School - only the new/first owner of a C7 gets it at the discount price of $1000 for the school that normally would cost something like $3500. So...for any used car, negotiate that extra $2500 out of the price!!

You can get a new Z06 for at least 10% off MSRP. I wouldn't buy a used 2015 model unless it was at least 20% off MSRP and more realistically 25% off. The problem is most owners think their cars are worth almost new prices so getting a discount like that is not likely.

I have yet to hear of anyone truly getting over 10% off MSRP without the friends and family GM discount. Even Kerbeck is quoting only 8% off MOST Z06s although they recently included the Z06 in the 1.99% financing plans. You do get a bigger discount with the heavily optioned Vettes. The best I see they have is one with an MSRP of $114k selling with a discount of 13k and another 1k if you have the Conquest rebate included.

Well, I said at least 10% off because my brother and I both got 10% off the 2016 Z06's we ordered in March and April. And those were ordered cars which dealers typically don't discount as much. We ordered our cars from MacMulkin. Call Mark or Tommy Jr and see what they will do for in stock cars.

There are two things that I would prefer from the '16:
- Carplay
- Front cameras
But the '15 warranty might actually be better than the '16 (no expert, check the details).
Neither would be worth an extra $5K because you could aftermarket them for that if you needed to, so I'd still likely wind up in a '15 today because of the price difference.
So if you can save $10K over the new '16, I'd do it. For $5K, I'd be conflicted enough I took the newer car. The BuyItNows are all right around 90K for convertibles, and they would have stickered higher (mine was 105, but it's all-in every option except Z07). So it sounds like you can save 10-15K out of the gate vs what I paid, but you need to be comparing to whatever the 16s are selling at (MSRP less a bit, depending who you ask).
If a car is listed for 95K with a 90K BuyItNow I bet they'd take 88K near the end of the auction if you're serious. Maybe less, but there are 3-4 up there right now in the same range so it looks like a tight price range.

I see convertible Z's well under 85k
If you filter keyword "3lz" you'll still see a lot of options

Anybody who pays "MSRP less a bit" is paying ten grand too much for a 2016. Don't take my word for it. Just call any of the large forum venders. "MSRP less a bit" is what folks were paying for 2016 Z06's a year ago. Prices have dropped significantly since then.

I haven't completed the paperwork on my order yet. Built next week and comes a week or two later. I've been watching pretty closely to make sure I still get a good deal when it comes time to agree on a price.

OP- The deals are there to be had! Make an offer you want and if they don't take it, there will be another one soon enough

I purchased my '16 Z06 from MacMulkin in March and didn't get 10%, close, but not 10%.
If you can get a new '16 Z06 at 10% off, then go for it. That's an incredible deal for a great car.
I remember less than two years ago a lot of dealerships were asking ADMs on the early '15s. Actually, you might find a couple on the West Coast still "trying" this...
I'd say that between 8-10% is the going rate at some of the bigger high volume dealers... Of course there are always exceptions. GL

Here ya go! I understand that it is not the 'norm', however, I worked out a deal at almost 20% off, I paid 76 for a new Z06 that had a 95K MSRP. I could have used supplier pricing but it would have been less (way less) of a discount I understand that I got lucky and it's not going to happen all that often... I had to take the deal, no way was I walking from that

Just picked up my vette from dealer in Mn where it was serviced. They were washing it for me so I when onto the floor to look at a new z06 up close. After sales guy made himself look like a typical sales guy
I asked him about discounts and no bs pricing, he said they were sitting on more 16's then they would like and that 10k off sticker was not a problem on cars over 100k...... Thought that if inventory stayed the same they would be 15k off by August..... Problem would be selection by then is my guess.
If true, a 15 z06 with low miles should be 20 off for sure. If you find exactly what your looking for in a 16 you should get that one.....
Good luck....awesome car!

I paid 87 for a 95 MSRP and I am happy with it. Don't sweat a couple grand, IMO. Life is way bigger than a couple grand. Besides, let them earn a paycheck, those Chevy guys work hard and don't make a ton of money selling all those Cruze's. Make it fun for them. Corvette!

You f'ers. Now I'm seriously reconsidering the car I've ordered and just going to negotiate for Z's on the lots.
