2 post lift

Every now and then if I pull in a touch far or to far to one side or the other....the lift arms wont line up with the pucks because of the arc they swing through. If I am in a hurry I just make sure the lift pad is lined up on a solid piece of the frame rail as close to the puck location as possible and not touching any body work. I haven't had any issues this way either.
Since the introduction of the C5 with the hydro-formed frame rails this is no where near as critical as it was on older Vettes.
One thing I did do the first time I lifted a C5, C6 or C7 was position the car perfectly for aligning the pucks and ready for lifting I then marked the tire positions.
There is also an indentation you can see while seated in the drivers seat looking down at the door sill with the door open. I put a mark on the floor for that indentation. If you stop fairly close to that mark you will be lined up 95% of the time.

I grabbed laser line generators off eBay and put them on the ceiling - now I can park it dead center within millimeters.
It looks like the car is getting an MRI, but it's been great. Makes it very easy to perfectly place the car by yourself.
It's really just a high-tech version of the tennis ball, but because I got "+" sign lasers it works fore-aft and side to side as well (as does the tennis ball, albeit not quite as accurately).

Sure, happy to help! Here's an example of how it looks and what the little laser units actually look like (there's no reference here but they're about the size of a chapstick tube).
I can't find the exact ones I bought, but here's a similar thing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Focusable-20...kAAOSwoudW6Tl9
I wound up powering it off the light in my garage door opener so they're not on all the time. That works great for parking. For the lift I tied it into the room lighting. In either case they're powered with a typical wallwart style transformer brick.
To mount it I used a hose clamp, nothing fancy. Some come with adjustable mounts, which is nice. Make sure to hang a plumb bob so that it points directly downwards, as you don't want the height of the car (or whatever its shining on) to throw it off. In other words I started with the blue tape, then hung a bob to find that spot on the ceiling and then mounted it there.
I have 3 in the shop, and use different colors so I know what's what. Red and green are the most visible, blue is a bit hard to see.

I use the puck points. Once I had it lined up I put blue masking tape on the floor for the driver's side tires and just put it back within the tape each time and know it's lined up.

Hey Dave,
thanks - really beneficial information.
What I am courious in is where do the laser cross shine on/where is your reference point in/at the car?
Guess sitting in the car having the reference point somewhere outside the car (e. g. left fender cwertical line/center of the wheel vertical line) will force you to get several times out of the car to check without a second person outside.
Thanks
Lars

I use the little sensor on the dash as the aim point. Depends on the car, but I like to split the vents.
But yes, you'll likely have to aim it from a ladder once you get the car in where you want it. I just try to keep it pointing as straight down as possible so mock it up fore-aft beforehand if possible.
