Got a nail in my run flat tire and Costco patched it.
I called them because they are a Michelin tire dealer. I talked to their tire guy and told him where the nail was and he said no problem bring it in. I have read so many stories about how these tires are a pain in the a$$ to change. The 2 guys had it off and repaired and back on in no time. They used a tool they called a bazooka to get it to set. They even let me come back into the shop while they did everything. All of this and only charged me $10.95. I was so happy that I didn't have to buy a new tire with only 3100 miles on the vehicle. I was also so impressed with the 2 guys that I tipped them $20 bucks each. They said there were cameras everywhere and they weren't allowed to take tips so I crinkled the 2 bills up and through them in their tool boxes and left. Just thought this was good information. Oh they also said they would hook me up with tires when I need them..

There was a Michelin rep at the store when I was there. He said each tire can have one repair and still obtain it's speed rating. Also Tire rack says the same thing on their website about Michelin run flats. Check it out.

I was having my michelin run flats replaced. Was taking quite a while as they explained how hard the tire was. The tech brought out my old tire off the rim. He was 6'4" and probably 280lbs. He then sits on the tire and it didn't budge! Thats how strong it is structurally. I have a patch on a brand new tire and am not concerned at all after learning the same info as above and seeing that demo.

I think you may be referring to the different compound on the tread of the tire which is different inside, middle, and outside. That is for handling and grip under performance, not ride quality. Performance.

every manufacturer has a policy about whether their tire can be repaired....yes it may lose its speed rating but unless your job involves driving your Corvette to work everyday at 100+ mph you will be fine
I posted a list of what each manufacturer suggests or approves a few weeks ago
