Default High Capacity SD card in PDR

I wasn't sure if I could use anything larger than a 32 GB card but I gave it a try. Picked up a 128 GB Class 10 Sony SD card from Amazon for $39. I used the following link to format the card to FAT32 and it worked flawlessly! Took about 15 seconds to format the card. Just click the link, download the software in about 30 seconds, and format the card. (just make sure you select your SD card as the drive and not your hard drive)

Either you give the car to the valet for far too long or you need to sort through your track day footage more often. That's a lot of minutes!

$10 more to double capacity from 64 to 128. Why not! Just say thank you for the advice and move along.

I did the same thing, mostly bought it for the high speed record and play back, nothing worse than a slow sd card.

To format it, I used "EaseUS Partition Master 10.8" instead, worked like a champ

Little touchy man. I was joking with you. Not everyone on this site is out for blood on every post.

I run 256G. Haven't touched it in 2000 miles and I use it as a dash cam whenever I remember, hasn't filled up yet! 12,000 minutes or something like that.

On the format issue, I simply insert the card into my PC, go to my computer right click the card and select quick format. It will prompt for the type. Fat 32 or NTSF. I only have a 32Gb card. I haven't used it yet but I may stray off and give it a try today!

Guess who wrote that damned dialog 20+ years ago? Me, in an afternoon, and the biggest card at the time was like 10M. Actually I don't recall the reason that wound up with a size limit, but it applies to the command line too, so it's probably in the API, not the dialog. Either way, if you want to format a card bigger than a certain size (I forget if 64G or 128G is the cutoff) you need a third-party utility.

There are a number of threads with utilities that work. I used Fat32Format but there are simpler ones too.

Default sd card for the pdr

If anyone looking for an inexpensive card!

I just purchased
SanDisk Ultra 32 GB SDHC SDXC SD Class 10 48MB/s 320x Memory Card SDSDUNB-032G off Ebay for $10.90 and that's with free shipping. Took it out of the package and put it into the car.

This SanDisk SDHC comes formatted in FAT32. 785 minutes which is just over 13hrs.

That's exactly what I did. Bought two, although got them at Best Buy for a little more, I think about $16. But no waiting. Frankly, given GM's likely miniscule cost on a card, it amazes me that they do not include a 32G card with the car. It took me a while to realize that the reason the PDR didn't work was I needed to get my own card. Very annoying at the time. Oh well. Still learning the car and haven't really used the PDR much yet, but hope to soon --Bob

Using the Fat32Format tool, I formated a 256GB card I had laying around. Worked perfectly, but only using the Fat32 format. ExtFat doesn't work.

Shows 6700+ minutes on the clock. An 8GB card I had will only yield 27 minutes.

I usually follow MFGs Suggestions, but his is a bit different. Thanks for the input. Buying bigger faster chips. What is that song "Older Whiskey, Faster Horses, more memory... I like to leave the cameras on. Too many jerks who think it is necessary to cut me off from either side. I just want their info so when they do cause the accident I have their info. Windows won't format a card (or partition) over 32GB in size to FAT32. There are 3rd party programs that will format larger cards to FAT32 (ultimate boot cd has a collection of freeware), and Windows has no issues working with FAT32 on larger cards, so I don't know why Windows won't format the larger cards to FAT32.

If you can burn and boot from CD, then do a web search for ultimate boot cd. The web site mentions an experimental version for booting from a USB stick. The CD has it's own standalone operating system (some version of Linux probably) that runs in RAM without needing any hard drives to install or run it. You will need someway to burn the CD.

Thanks for your reply. I only have access to an iPad or a MacMini running the latest version of iOS. Guess I'm SOL.
