Why is the C7Z the most criticized Vette I've owned?

Don't think there would be much negative commentary if GM had produced a car that lived up to the "best track vette ever" hype. That's the main issue for most of the, as a lot of you call them, haters.
And for what it worth, I don't believe that all the haters (naysayers, my word) are folks who can't afford one and/or don't have or have never owned a supercar. It's all about disappointment and real hype.

I agree with this viewpoint. As someone who has owned more expensive cars, my "expectations" were much higher than when considering a Corvette. However, when the price tag (for my car) was around $115,000, accompanied by all the hype, I began looking more closely (remembering the poor interiors and finish of the past). As for me, selling a Porsche Turbo S (did not have garage space for both cars), I bought the Corvette "wondering" if I really would enjoy it. I can honestly tell you, I have never looked back.
In my case, with the exception of the overheating problem on the track (I have an A8), the car is technologically, mechanically, and aesthetically, as nice (to me) as my Ferrari, etc. Best

I think it's because this Z06 is a different Vette. It is now being compared to other supercars. It's performance is now being compared to a higher level of competition and it performs as well as cars which cost 100k or more. Vettes were always nice fast sports cars with few US competitors in their market and no one considered them to be compared to the Porsches etc. of the world. Now that has changed and there is a new level of critique.

Disconcerting.
I've thoroughly enjoyed owning 5 different Corvettes, ranging from two C4s, a C5, a C6Z, and now a C7Z. Not one of these cars was what I'd call "PERFECT". Each had its strengths and weaknesses.
I truly think it's the best Vette ever...and possibly by a considerable margin. Are people like me missing something?

Sorry but I do NOT think the C7Z it is the best Vette ever. It is a compromised design create to appeal to graying men who what to be comfortable and to have an open air experience.

The link and post references are to his previous arguments why he doesn't like the car. Beautiful.

Of course it's a compromise. I can drive it to a track 3 hours away with my top off and comfortable cranking my favorite tunes. Then I can put the top on and kick *** on the track with street tires. Take the top off and comfortably drive home. If you want t race on a track all day, buy a race car and Trailer it there. This is a street car that is track capable.

For me, I would have liked the idea of the car a whole lot more if they had called it a ZR1 instead of Z06. It's not that I don't like the car (okay, the rear end still hasn't grown on me, and by now I don't think it ever will) it's just disappointment relative to the hype.
I just liked what Z06 used to stand for.

It immediately focused attention on its track capabilities and the rest, as they say, was history.
The cockpit is too cramped for that.
Something more roomy and higher off the ground would be better.

Every track weekend I see C7Zs in the pits overheating with moderate/average drivers.
As to the OP... the car is criticized because GM came out of the gate marketing the car as the most trackable Corvette in history. It didn't live up to it and they amended the marketing slogan to "track capable" or some vague term which they said meant only that the warranty was in effect even with track use.... which has been the case since the C5, but they acted like it was something new here.
They're fantastic cars... best Corvettes yet, but GM overpromised and underdelivered. With all the marketing about track focused and all the new vents/ducts and tech from the C7R (styling anyway) I was confident GM finally made a car that could truly handle track days with minimal mods... that seems to be the case for the Z51 but not the Z06.

Like others mentioned, everyone has access to the internet and social media. In addition, YouTube reviews etc. are everywhere and highlight the good and the bad for every car.
