Glowing reviews of Grand Sport
Every review I have taken the time to read lately seems to show nothing but glowing reviews for the Grand Sport with titles like "The Corvette You've Been Dreaming Of." I can't hate on the review, or reviewers for that matter, but what I don't understand is why such admiration of this car when it is a detuned version of the Z (maybe the same thing happened with the C6, I never really paid attention.) Every time I see the Z06 mentioned, even within the Grand Sport reviews, overheating is a topic as though every single car overheats or you can't drive the car fast without issue. They still talk about "race" stuff with the Grand Sport as per the latest Motortrend article quoting Tadge Juechter, “[The Grand Sport is] not race-inspired. It’s race-bred. … We’ve done a direct technology transfer from the race cars onto the production cars.” So they, GM, are still pulling the track car strings just like they did with the Z06 and yet no one is going ballistic. Everything the reviewers love about the Grand Sport has been on the Z for two years now. If having less power makes the car that much better, why not just lift a little and drive the car at the appropriate pace as it is the exact. same. car.
I tend to only post on factual topics with direct question/answer replys but this just sort of baffles me.

And Kerbeck has a few of them,(Z's) cheaper than the G.S.

I agree with Fleming here. This is ridiculous to have negativity to a Z06 but then act like the GS is a new breed of super vehicle. If one short shifted a Z06, they'd pull lap times similar to a GS but never overheat.

Drifting
the Z06 is an embarrassment

Burning Brakes
Maybe the car is that good, but at the as tested price, it's hard not to go with the Z06.
I will say it also feels like a bit of a PR make good for all the less than stellar reviews of the Z06. It's pretty much the same review with a different author.

I'll take a Z06 over the GS any day of the week. I drove a Stingray for a bit before I bought the Z06 and it was nowhere as close to fun driving it as the Z06, not even close. I saw a couple of Grand Sports at the dealership a couple of days ago and they were as much as the Z06..Ridiculous.

These articles sell magazines and lets face it GM and the ones that write these articles are on big happy family. It is all about selling cars and to keep you guessing about the mid engine ZR1. Customer Service can take this back to the GM Round Table.

If I was going to spend 80k on a "track car" it would be a fully prepped C5Z or C6Z depending on what I was trying to accomplish, not a 2017 GS or C7Z with Nappa leather, bluetooth, nav, etc.
More than likely it would be 40K on a prepped C5Z. All this magazine and factory talk about "track this or that" on these new cars is pretty stupid, IMO. The 2017 GS will be a great track car in 10 years.

A fully loaded GS is about what?, $85K? Who wouldn't want the real deal for that kind of money, and yes I mean the Z06.
As for the track, since the Z (even the A8 version), can be driven a full HPDE whilst managing temps, and will be (far?) faster than the GS, why bother buying one again?
Makes no sense to me.

I remember a lot of C6 Z06 owners being pizzed when the C6 GS came out. They didn't like the fact that it got the wide body, bigger wheels & brakes, and took away some of the media attention from the Z06. They were also upset that the general public wouldn't know the difference between the 2 cars.
My take on that- who cares? I knew what I had and I got to enjoy driving it. I appreciated the GS for what it was and they sold a ton of them. It was really great marketing which made more money and allowed the Vette to move forward with better funding in the future.
I understand there's a little extra grief regarding references to the Z06 overheating problems vs. the GS on track but the LS7 also had the valveguide wear problem that became well known. Bottom line IMO is, enjoy your car as it is and don't begrudge the other iterations of the Corvette. Success with any variation makes it better for all others down the road.

FWIW and IMO, the GS should have had an upgraded LT1 with 480-490hp.

I only know what I read so ask my question trying to better understand what this is all about.
I know there is a C 7 Stingray and then variations of the C 7 Z 06.
So why build the GS? What market share fits between the first two and what will they do/get differently than the rest?
Best

Here's a novel thought..... many prefer N/A ??
Maybe they want to run lap after lap without going into limp mode?
Maybe they don't want to spend $1000's more to cool a $80000 car ??

The GS is just the newest thing. I also love how people have no negative comments about the GS. No one has considered how much slower the Aero 2 GS will accelerate past 60+ than a normal Stingray. People talked crap about the 60+ mph acceleration of the Z06. The GS has the same aero as the Z06 but 190hp less. No mention of this. Then there is top speed. All I heard was bla bla Z06 only goes 185mph.... GS magic goes only 5 mph slower? Someone's math is off. (For the record I believe Aero2 Z06 can go much faster than 185 and aero 1 are 200 mph cars all day.)
Going to be hard to not mock GS owners that do the following things:
1) Add the Aero 3 pieces from the Z06. Can you say dog slow acceleration?
2) Supercharge a GS. (Pay than a Z06 after you mod it and void your warranty to make it a Z06 but with weaker driveline components.)
Bets on how long it will be before these to things occur?
Finally I paid less for my 2LZ Aero2 A8 Z06 than most GS I have seen advertised. Guess I will just have to live with the POS.
