Front Splitter Winglets. Yay or Nay?
New Z06 here with stock stage 1. For appearance and protection I'm looking at C7 Carbon GTX side skirts and front splitter in carbon flash.
Any pros/cons to the winglets, or side splitters on the front splitter for a mostly street vehicle? Anyone regret choosing one vs the other?
I'm having a hard time choosing on this. If it were my prior Z51 I would have kept it simple without the winglets, but on the Z06 I'm not sure if the "over the top" appearance of the winglets is maybe more in line with the Z

Just one more piece per side to get trashed by all the crap on our roads here in D/FW. Unless you are going to trailer it around town, it's only going to be a matter of time before the suv in the next lane runs over something like a piece of recap and it chunks over into your lane. Of course, you will have nowhere to go either .......... Blam !

I would go with the winglets. I wasn't sure about them at first but once I put them on I noticed how odd it looked like with out them. They come with the front splitter anyway so you can try it w/ and w/out.
Here is some pics of it on my car. Same car you see on c7carbons site btw

Stage 3 makes the spats look better and more logical, IMO.

Personally I like the look of Stage 2 over Stage 3, but either is a big improvement over Stage 1.

Is it an Allen bolt where the small end of an Allen wrench looks like it may just fit?
Did you use large fender washers under the bolts when installing?
Thanks

I have a Z07 and have yet to put on the stage 3 parts that came with the car.
I still debate it on a regular basis, but I actually like the look of stage 2 as it is.

Bought stage 3 winglets already for my Grand Sport that will be built this week! Mine did not come with instructions. Only issue looks like fitting whatever wrench is need on the front bottom side. Looks like there will be little room behind the bolt.

Your Stage 3 front splitter endplates should have come with 4 bolts (2 for each side) to mount the bottom of the endplate to the splitter, and 6 screws (3 for each side) to attach the endplate to the inside of the fender well. The bolts for the bottom of the Stage 3 endplate are different from the Stage 2 ones, and the 3 screws for each side in the wheel well are also different.
I have a Z07 and I remove/replace my front splitter endplates and rear spoiler wings/extenions to change drag for different tracks. For most tracks I can run the full Stage 3, but I did 2 HPDE's at on the Daytona Rolex 24 roadcourse last fall and ran in a Stage 1-1/2 configuration - that's Stage 2 front splitter endplates, and Stage 1 rear spoiler extensions.
I'm running an HPDE this week at Daytona and plan to run the Stage 1-1/2 config one day, and may swap on the full Stage 3 for the second day, just to see what the extra downforce and drag do for lap times and top speed.
The rear spoiler swap is no problem at all. I did the Museum delivery in March 2016. The car came with the Stage 3 stuff on the rear spoiler, but the Stage 2 front splitter endplates installed. The Stage 3 endplates were in the car.
I bought a pair of Stage 1 rear spoiler extensions to reduce drag for high-speed events, and when I removed the Stage 3 aero from the rear spoiler I found the Museum DID NOT use the tape - i.e., they did not remove the protective strip from the tape, so the Stage 2 extensions weren't stuck onto the spoiler.
I installed my Stage 1 extensions in the same manner so I can swap back-n-forth easily and quickly.
The front splitter endplates are a different story!!!!! They are a bit of a PITA to swap!!
The Stage 2 endplates are installed with bolts that have a nice carbon flash cosmetic finish on them because they are out in public view:
And there are 3 screws on each side that hold the spat into the wheel well, and these need to be removed because the Stage 3 endplate wraps around the spat. The screws that hold the spat on are short and have a washer on them, so they won't work with the Stage 3 endplate. The screws that come with the Stage 3 endplate are longer and do not have a washer:
The Stage 3 endplates have bolts with a bit of a built in washer - so you don't need (can't really fit) any fender washers in there (like JerryU asked about). The problem is that it's hard to access the head of the front bolt, as well as the nut on the inside (which IIRC is a 10mm nut). The bolts require a T15 Torx bit, but you can't fit a screwdriver into the area. I use a 5/32" allen wrench to hold the bolt while I tighten the nut:
The Z07 like HalfMoon and I have has an "undertray" sort of covering behind the splitter. It's held on with 21 screws across the front and 4 across the back:
I usually take out about 7 or 8 on each side in order to pull down the undertray so I'm able to reach in there and blindly feel around to get a ratchet with extension in there to get a socket on the nut (again, 10mm I think). It's easier to just remove the entire undertray, but still a PITA to get to the front nut in order to tighten down while holding a 5/32" allen wrench on the bolt head. Then I need to reinstall the undertray!
This whole process is much more difficult than it seems it should be.
If you don't have a Z07 I don't think the Stage 2 or lower Z06 or the GS will have the undertray, but I'm not sure - and if not that would make it easier to get in there to the nuts inside the splitter.
Bottom line - swapping on the Stage 3 front splitter endplates is not a real quick and easy mod. Not hard, but you'll probably want to raise the front of the car up at least a foot in the air in order to be able to reach in there to get to the nuts hiding inside the end of the splitter.
