Default AZ speeding ticket

Soooooo. I learned a lot about Arizona recently. Above 85mph is a crime. They can impound your car and arrest u for this crime. And their DPS are mean.

I had had a good experience with R&R Law Group out of PHX and recommend them.

I was was not impounded but was written for the full 98 in a 65. Mean, mean troopers. Anyway, I ended up with class time only- hence the recommendation to R&R.

I understand that Az is loaded with automatic speed cameras, particularly around Phoenix.

Haven't they shut those down couple of years age? Right after a worker maintaining one of them was shot to death while on the job by a random motorist.

Escort has detector models that have all the speed camera's loaded and up dated so those are just silliness if you get hit by one of those.
I don't drive with out one going. Then you have to watch for the cops all the time. More than 1/2 the cops are unmarked units now in many different types of cars. Look at EVERY DRIVER you pass.
It is a must.

Waze + radar detector + alert attentive driving = limiting your risk. When you do have the pleasure of meeting a uniformed officer who then applies the appropriate road tax commensurate with your speed.....get a lawyer.

Default What?

So driving 33 mph over the limit is their fault. When a large amount of accidents is caused by speed/reckless driving somehow it's their fault you get caught driving like you're on a track instead of out there mixing it up with my friends, family, etc. Drunk drivers also choose to risk it. Just pay the fine. Go ahead I can take it.

Not defending or debating. But my new purpose built car is safer at +30 mph than many on the road traveling at the speed limit. We've all seen the 70's pickup with drum brakes, bald tires and dim headlights on the highway. If safety is THE issue we're not catching/correcting both ends of the problem with safer vehicles.

Absolutely, cars as a whole are much safer with the technology in the past 10 or so yrs. but problem is still the nut behind the wheel. Drivers have not gotten better as cars evolve. Even if you -think- you're safe what about the other guy who swerves into your path, brakes suddenly in front of you or just gets po'd at us in "our" fancy car & tries to put you in the median. The main thing I was getting at was no one takes responsibility for their actions. OWN IT, don't whine about getting caught.

I don't recall him saying it wasn't his fault. He simply called the officer 'mean.' Also FYI the speed limit on I-17 is 75mph...I live here, so many people might think 85mph is 'ok.' In reality 10 over is usually ok, but NOT in the 75mph areas. So hearing you can get your impounded for 10 over sounds crazy...but most AZ residents know this. Then again he was doing 98!! Lol.

Heh............ 18 over here in TX is a no no. With 75 mph limits on most of our highways, including secondary 2 lane roads, anyone going 93 deserves it if they get caught.

Doing almost a 100 in a 65? Yep, I would not expect any trooper to be too friendly during the resulting stop and "conversation".

No longer have camera's or radar vans on State highways, but the city's still maintain speed and red light cameras on the city surface streets.

I actually have fond memories of my only AZ speeding ticket. It was in the 1970s during the gas crisis. The feds imposed the 55 MPH speed limit on all the states, but AZ didn't care for that big brother mandate. When I was stopped for doing 70+ in a 55, the infraction title on the ticket I received was, "Wasting a Natural Resource in Short Supply." The fine was all of $5. Oh, the good old days.

Only city that still uses the cameras the most is el mirage.
Other cities hardly use them and the 101 doesn't have them no more.
Anything over 80mph in Arizona is actually felony speeding even if the speed limit is 75mph. And or 20+ Over counts as felony speeding

Wow, didn't know speeding was a felony in some states. Luckily my speeding tickets have all disappeared with good lawyers and hefty fines. Not cheap but better than a 'flagged' license and inflated insurance rates. I currently qualify for safe driver discount with my insurance company with 4 equipment violation tickets in the last 6 years.

Honestly no offense intended, but you are a fool if you think that speeding fines have anything to do with safety. It may have started off that way, but those days are long gone. It's all about the revenue. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Coul not agree more. Speed doesn't kill, bad drivers do. The *** hat in his big truck hauling a bunch of snowmobiles tailgating 10 feet behind someone going 80 needs his head beat in. The same *** hat following me so close I can't see his head
lights needs his life taken away. This is the type of behavior that needs to be eliminated, not some guy doing a 100+ on a back country road or an open stretch of highway.
I have found a great use for the sticky tires. I do 10 over and always seem to have some idiot tailgate me on the two lane where there is never a place to pass. All I do is move towards the centerline where all the rocks collect. This puts a rooster tail of rocks and junk right into their front end. All the sudden they are way back. The real dumb ones try it again thinking it was some kind of anomaly. Other times I swerve to the left lane, hit the breaks hard and watch them fly by. Now they have no idea what kind of psychopath is behind them. They usually turn off pretty quick.

The guy you elected to run your county is running a business and if he is negative at the end of his term he will be easily voted out. Sad we have come to a time where we think revenue at $120 at time is going to make a difference, who knows, maybe it does. I need to stop now. Thanks for listening.

I have been driving for 25 years and have managed to avoid ever getting a point on my license (had some go to court and were 'adjudication withheld') until AZ. I live in Florida. I went to AZ on business and rented a Harley to do some traveling while I was there (business on day one and on day five with three days in the middle off). I am a sport bike guy but wanted to cruise. I found the Harley to be uncomfortable at the highway speed limit and never put on so many slow miles in a row in my life (5 -10 UNDER). Ahhhh the irony!! I did manage to pass a traffic camera at 9 over in the city of Scottsdale. I got a ticket in the mail. I hired a law firm who did an awful job and charged $500 on top of that. Insane is having a Process Server show up to my house in Florida to serve me a traffic court summons for a traffic violation (not misdemeanor or felony) for a ticket in AZ - even the process server couldn't believe he was actually hired to serve it. That cost me an extra $100. From memory the ticket fine imposed by the court was another $500 (which was more or less what the face value of the ticket was). Thank the Lord that I can afford to pay. I spent a total of $1100 and have 3 points for 9 over from a traffic camera because of horrible traffic laws and awful representation (I will not even explain how horrible but lets say that I knew more about the traffic law system than the lawyer that was switched to my case at the very last second who is a criminal lawyer and knew zero about traffic). There are plenty of people who cannot afford to pay a ticket then end up in jail for driving on a suspended license to get to work to earn a pittance to pay for their daily needs. It is called debtor prison and it is wrong. The traffic enforcement in AZ is totally totally totally about raising money and not about safety. BTW, from what I heard running a red light in AZ is a criminal offense and requires a court appearance. I typically don't respond to any posts on forums even when I agree or disagree but I couldn't help myself. AZ sucks for traffic enforcement! Whoever got a vette (specifically a Z06) and drives it on the street and still says they don't speed is either a turd or a tool. Careful before you flame because 1mph over is speeding and I don't think a person here hasn't done that - over is over. IMHO, 9 over is a total freaking joke but not such a funny joke in AZ.
