Default DFW Z06 build thread

Ok guys/gals, I decided I'd go ahead and put a build thread together.
I'm not doing this because I think I hit a magical number, or that my car is the greatest, but because I think there are plenty of others out there that this may help.

I came from a C6Z that was a H/C/I car, and made 596rwhp with meth and 93 pump gas.

I decided that I didn't really like the big cam car for normal driving, so I got rid of it for a GT350. That car was fun, but not nearly fast enough, and sucked at the drag stip.

Fast forward a bit, and now I'm back in a Z (2015). I bought it used with 4k miles on it. It's a 3LZ with the dark blue interior (I love it) and 7spd.
I ran the car stock for about 2500 miles, and then started the mods.

I bought a 18% lower pulley and belt from a forum vendor.
I bought a Fasterproms expansion tank, 160 deg thermostat, halltech intake (with the hiflow filter), corsa x-pipe, dual nozzle alky control meth, DMS e85 set up, and ACS side skirts (just for looks) in flat black to match the front lip.

My dad and I put the pulley, intake, x-pipe, side skirts, thermostat on in my garage. Then I dropped the car off at AMP for meth installation and e85 install/tune.

The final results where shockingly good!
My car made 726/757 at the wheels. That's over 850 at the crank. I am now hitting 15psi and have not seen any negative affects from heat. The meth/e85/expansion tank combo keeps this thing cool enough.
I had a budget of $5k, and came in just over it at $5400.

I originally was going to do long tubes, but the shop talked me out of it, saying that the gain was minimal and not worth it at this point.

AMP was fantastic to work with, and they clearly know there stuff. I'm lucky that I live so close to them, and in 25 minutes can be at their shop.

I also have a set of 18x12 rear wheels with Hoosier DR's in 335/30 R18 for the drag strip.

I ordered a set of Forgestar CF-5 in factory sizes. They are going to be color matched closely to my interior, and I think it'll look great. I'll update this thread when I get them in a few weeks. I'm going to have the factory rubber moved over to those rims, since they'll be my every day rim/tire set up.

I drive this car 20 miles each way to work, and prob do is 3-4 days a week. It drives like factory, and on 93 gas still gets 17-18 mpg (same as I got stock). I get about 14 mpg on e85, but that's under normal driving. Driving like I stole it, get's a whole lot less. LOL

I think I'm going to be happy with this set up for a long time. I thought bout going Procharger, but with this much power out of the factory blower, I'm going to pass.

Sweet build. I never imagined those kinds of gains with those mods. What kind of numbers are you expecting at the track?

I was thinking of mid 10's, but now I'm not sure.
I guess mid 10's should be easier now, and if I hit under 10.5, then even better.

AMP did say that avg rwhp with these mods is more like 660, not 725. I guess I have a really healthy car.

That's the best all around combo right there.. that's definitely the route I'll go if the mod bug bites.

We have a couple c7zs locally that make similar power with the same basic mods, although they do have headers/x pipe.

Seems like 700/750 is pretty common for a stock engine with an 18% pulley, CAI, meth, E85 mix, tune.

700 in an A8 should go 9.90-10.teens depending on the DA/hook.

Im liking this simple combo. I did a quick search on pricing and it isn't adding up... Can you do a breakdown on how you got to $5400?

I picked up a '16 Z last month and looking at upgrades.
you can pm me if you'd like.

Ok, decided to go the procharger route. I was tired of the huge amount of timing being pulled after the car heated up from just street driving. Picked up a F1R from the guys at AMP. I'm doing the install, and bringing to them for the tune. I'm not doing the install to save money, I just like working on my own ****. That's how you get to know your car. Anyway, onto the install. Tear down took about 4 hours. Then I found out that I couldn't use my 18% overdrive pulley, so it was another 4 hours to swap back to the factory crank pulley. The pulley swap on these cars is not fun. I'm now to the point that the F1 is back on the car and the intercooler is mounted. Today I'll run the piping and mount the manifold. I'll finish up all the little things tomorrow, and hopefully tune on Tuesday. Here are some pics of the project.

Oh and I'm still going to run meth, but no e85 till I cam it. Stock cam for now. The car should make around 800 to the wheels.

Awesome! Love seeing someone doing their own build. Do you plan on doing cam down the road?

I do plan on a cam in the near future. I'll have AMP do it tho.
Thanks. I know too many people that just drop their car off, and write a check. I want to do my own build.

Man you made quick work of that! Nice job.

I bet you can make 800 rwhp with the stock cam fairly easy...

Sub'd for the numbers.

Hopefully you don't have any coolant temp issues pop up with that big air to air sitting in front of the radiator...

I had an F1R for 5 years, I'm pretty familiar with them. Very reliable blower for a race blower.
