Default C7 Z06 vs. McLaren P1

So here's a fun video we put together. CF.com user Operations's 2015 C7 Z06 driven around Circuit of the Americas, side by side with a video of a McLaren P1 driven by Jason Hart (jasonhartracing.com), which according to Wikipedia, is the street car record at Circuit of the Americas.

Keep in mind this is street tires vs. race tires, but it's a great indicator of the performance potential of the C7 Z06. With just a few performance modifications, like Michelin race slicks, a GSpeed Cooling System, AP Radi-cal brakes, and GSpeed splitter & wing, the Corvette is able to hang with one of the fastest production cars in the world. The Corvette is able to corner harder than the P1 through the corners, but on the straights the extra power of the P1 is evident.

The Z06 is continuing its history of being one of the best performance bargains out there.

A little kind of ironic trivia...McClaren wouldn't be what it is today without depending on the Chevrolet "pushrod" V8s in their early race cars.

Curious: I see AP brakes listed as one of the goodies. Can GSpeed: can you elaborate how/why using them over OE? (not a pissing match, but a genuine inquiry from someone who would rather STOP fast, than GO fast).

Amazing. Thanks for the post. Odd, that some bash the Z06 so badly in other threads given this...

Main reason is the cost of consumables, CCB pads cost more, and last half as long. The AP replacement rotor rings are about 1/3 the cost and about same life of CCB's.
Then there are dozens of pad compound choices for the AP's, this opens up the ability to change pad type/grip to specific track if desired.
CCB's pad options are somewhat few in comparison.

Being we have deadacated the car for track use it makes sense for us.
There are some other tangible benafits but I think this should give you the basic idea.

Cost per lap time, it's pretty cool. Especially since the sectors times are different. Don't get me wrong, I'll take a P1 but it will throw fault codes every time I drive it lol... worth it!

Unless it's a side by side comparision, with a full film crew recording, it's not a true test! Come on GSpeed get it done!

I wonder if MacLaren would be up for it? Maybe with a special P1+ tune?

Would you care though? Plus Maclaren would probably fly out an engineer for you to clear (read mod the ECU) any codes you got.

Or P1 GTR!!! Ha, the video is a good side by side, both videos have data overlay.

For the cheaper McLarens, the warranty is 4k/year. I almost bought a MP4 recently but I could not make myself do it, it's more of a piece of art. They are fragile, example:

Just from my last track day with my buddies cars:
675LT: cat failure/melted wire harness
675LT: active wing failure
650S: hydraulic accumulator failure
650S: intake came loose

Yikes, that ain't good.

In spite of that, they sure have a beautiful, sexy exterior....although the interior is a little uninspiring.

You mean the Can Am cars? I'm not sure their reputation is dependent on that. I think they are the second most successful F1 team, but the Can Am days were pretty awesome.
