Default Would you buy this Z06 for your wife?

Aloha all! We found a 2015 Z06 we like, but the car fax has us worried it's been beat up on the track. I'm not a racer, so I want something that hasn't been abused and will be reliable. I was going to order a new 2017 GS, which would have been the same price as this 2015. Would you give us your thoughts on this car based on the car fax? My best guess is that he was racing it in Huntington Beach and AZ based on mileage, tire replacements and service areas. Thank you so much!

Looks like a good maintenance schedule to me. I'd not want surfaced rotors, but the other items look good.

I've learned not to worry about a car driven hard. I missed out on an $80k 2009
GT3 with 8,500 miles because it had rubber in the wheel wells and metal tape over the wheel weights. Clearly tracked and I passed. Now it's worth nearly double that since it was a manual. It's made for it so don't worry.

I think your wife will be more happy with the new GS. Discounts going on with them already. Wife happy your more happy.

BUT I'd not worry about the car in question. Better the owner had the proper maintenance done at the dealer then not at all. IF he did it himself you would have never known it was tracked. Looks like light track time anyway. Probably a modest amount of time on the track You add up a few days of HPDE track days and you get maybe 8 to 12 hours. Not much of a problem vrs say being caught is daily traffic jams.

I would let your wife order a new GS exactly the way she wants one. Unless the 13gs didn't have enough power. The new GS still has enough power to get you arrested real quick. I bought a z06 because I had an 08z and I track my car so I use the power. Good luck with your choice and I'm glad your wife enjoys corvette with you.

Used sports cars are always a gamble. You don't know how the previous owner treated the car. I wonder how the car ended up at a Mitsubishi dealer.

My thoughts: I would completely avoid this car. Rode hard and put away wet (LOL).

As stated above by Basil: have your wife order the GS exactly as she likes it. Also, if it were my wife? I'd want to know that her car is covered by the manufacturers warranty.

I would never buy a used Corvette from a dealer. When you buy from an individual (on CF) you can discover the complete history of the car. When you buy from a dealer you are trying to figure out what has been done to the car and how it has been used.

Get a low mileage stock pristine car from the For Sale section and fly out to pick it up and make the drive back home a vacation. Been there, done that.

I wouldn't rule this car out but I'd assume the mileage on it is hard mileage, and account for it in the offer price. If that's not the car you're looking for, find a lightly used or order a new one at a higher price.

These cars are well made mechanically and I wouldn't run away from a car that had some track use, but I wouldn't pay full ride for it either.

I'd think about it from the standpoint of remaining warranty, and then what could go wrong. If it's a '15, there's not much 3/36 left. The powertrain is there until 5/100K but who knows if Chev will endorse a claim. I think you need to take the VIN to a GM dealer service dept. and see if there are any "blocks" or warranty claims denied already; it's free and it's on the proprietary GM VIS report.

As to what could wrong, probably the same as any used car with same mileage. Or, a little more. Beyond 3/36, it'll all be on your dime unless it's powertrain and there's no issues with a claim.

You have local Chev dealers that you'd get it serviced at if there was a claim; go ask them about this car, as it was used, and if it becomes your wife's car and there's an issue. That's the definitive way of finding out, and even then, that's a going-forward action that may not come to pass.

Which means to me, the safer way to go is a new GS. Plus, your wife gets to pick everything on the car.

Thank you to everyone who has responded so far! I value all the input. Decisions, decisions.... I do have to chuckle though, you all assumed it was the husband doing the posting, probably mostly based on my subject line... but it's me, the wife, with the account and doing the posting. I'm the one in love with the cars and I've got the Corvette fever, again. Once you've had one, you have a hard time living without them!

The OP is written like a husband is buying a car for his wife. Perhaps a better written heading would have been "would you buy this z06?"

Anyway- i vote new gs.

Not mostly based on the subject line, purely based on the subject line. Time to get the tarot cards out.

My turn to chuckle. Okay, that being done, let me ask you this. You're coming from a GS (unless your handle is another misdirection ) - so why are you looking at a ZO6? Why not another GS or a loaded C7? What's causing you to inquire about this Z? Track aspirations? You indicate you are not a racer. Fast touring? The Zs appearance? What? Why the Z?

And yes, Corvettes are addictive, aren't they? Wonderfully so.

LOL... HighBeta. Good one. I did indeed have the 2013 GS. Loved it! No particular reason for the Z, other than I'd like to have one. Not into the "loaded" option, as I never use all that stuff and the outer aesthetics are much more important than interior bells and whistles. We just happened to come across it and the price for that Z was the same as a 17 GS build. No track aspirations as we don't have one here, sadly. Otherwise I might! No fast touring either. So in a nutshell, because it's the best and I love the appearance.
Here she is.....We even bought her a race car hauler!

Niiiiice! Very!

Well, you've got your reasons, very similar to mine, BTW, and now you've read several opinions from the crowd both for and against the Carfaxed Z. All I can add is I hope you enjoy the shopping experience (yes, I am a big fan of the process, lol) and let us know what you wind up doing?

Left over 16s, lightly used 15s, discounted GSs. Big toy store! Have fun!

I'd be wondering about this.. and DEFINITELY staying away from any service performed by Van Chevrolet if they've been rotating the tires on the Corvettes..

I stand corrected!

Can in fact switch L > R and R > L staying front/rear. I've not looked at the tires in a while but they used to be unidirectional.. learn something about these awesome cars everyday!

We decided against the used Z after considering everyone's thoughts, as well as the fact that my husband can't work on this car. He can do practically anything to an older car, but all these electronics and computers these days, you've got to have all that specialized equipment and training. So one that hasn't been abused and also has at least a majority of its warranty remaining is the best choice for us.
