Default Check your tires regularly!!

I avoided a bad situation when I checked my front tires and found the cords showing through, I was shocked. To be honest I was not as diligent at doing this as I should have been not doubt. The rears are easy to check and the fronts when the the wheels are turned out I look at them but this wear was on the inter edges which really requires a good inspection. 8K miles on these tires and 4 or 5 track days. I am sure the 90+degree track days this year did not help.

My lesson learned is you got wide tires and a very low car with aero this and that. Need to lay down get out a good light and inspect them more than a normal car. Will be a monthly deal for me going forward.

Contis here I come!

Thanks for sharing this with us. Do you know if this also from an alignment issue maybe?

Very uneven wear. It looks like too much negative camber. Been there and experienced the same result. What camber were you running?

I would suspect that your toe settings may be off.

What are your alignment specs??

To me tires are the most important part of the car. Always checking , picking rocks out of tread, looking closely them weekly. In the winter i block up the car and bring inside to keep warm . Below zero is common in buffalo ny and soft tires do not like this . Sport cup 2 and toyo r888 always live inside , not a big deal to block up remove . Sadly paul walker lost his life because of old tires. The porsche 918 that randy was operating was just removed from some guys collection a week before and had 9 year old tires on it that were like hockey pucks hardened over the years ,true story. I always buy the best tire i can ,saving a couple hundred bucks on your life is not worth it .

what were the specs? I ask because I have now had two tires exactly like that with under 2000 miles on them, with in spec track alignments.

I also learned the hard way with a previous Corvette. The last two I've taken to the dealer with a little over 500 miles on the new car and indicated the car was pulling. I told the writer to put the car into a street alignment. Chevy will warrantee one alignment. The tech told me I would have wiped out the fronts quickly if I didn't have it fixed. It was within GM specs but more for track.

All I can say is I picked the car up July 2015. Took it to the track in August. Went to my dealer before the track day to check alignment. He said I can put the track alignment on it, I was not looking for that just confirming it was within specs, but you would not be happy with the tire wear nor the street driving feel. He suggested to leave it at factory specs for street which I did. I never had it rechecked since August 2015 and did 5 more track days in the last year. This summer was hot. I checked the tires when I changed out the race oil in July 16 and they were fine.

I've hit a couple of pot holes this summer and instantly thought man that is sure to knock it out of alignment but never had it checked, it drove well.

My conclusion is 6 track days, 3 of them in the 90s over 2 summers, tires are soften up worn on the track then driven on the street a total of 7800 miles, to be honest mad I did not catch the wear sooner but pretty happy I got 7800 miles and 6 track days.

Almost every car we put on the lift in our Corvette club that has not had the factory alignment adjusted to improve tire wear will show significant wear on the inside edge. The alignment can be within specs and still be too aggressive for street use to maximize tire wear. Make sure you have minimal neg. Camber and close to zero toe in.

You make a valid point. I put 25K on my original non Z07 tires with the factory alignment specs. I am sure the factory alignment specs are fine. Question is.....is the car we drive actually still in the factory spec?
Never hurts to check.

I learned this lesson quickly with my 11 GS, been careful about the tires ever since. The alignment is give and take like most things in life. If you want slot car performance it will be at the expense of tire life. Long tread life means less handling.

Sounds different than my experience. Never ever had tire wear uneven
on a Corvette period. Plenty of use and plenty of tire swaps always
Factory alignment's untouched and perfect tire wear everytime.

Were talking a lot of Corvette's and tons of tires and miles.
To see this thread and some of the tires like the OP's. He is not alone! Make me feel
LUCKY !
