[QUOTE=GP1224;1593421031]Numbers dont lie... do they. 87 failures out of 16,000 A8 Z06s. 0.5% failure rate.
87 out of 16,000? Ha, ha, good one, where'd you pick up that whopper? I bet there are 87 forum members alone that have had their A8 replaced - including me.
At some point down the road their will be a major GM mea culpa on the A8.

A little birdy here told me. So how many out of 16,000 and more need to fail before its a generic unreliable crap trans? Based on what number? 200? 500? 1000? Do you know? And why would there be a GM mea culpa? How so? Because you think so? Low % failures are the norm for all manufactures. It happens. Try any forum.

New trans on order coming from Pontiac Michigan.
Ok, so although I will ask the master vette tech doing the work on my vette I figured I would ask my Z06 brothers here how long once the new tranny and t. converter are installed that i can start driving at WOT?
Educated guess on my part that I should avoid WOT until about 250 miles and should just drive the car normal during different speeds, etc. until things have broken in a bit?

Hmm, if it were a "built" auto trans, I'd think there might be a break in period, but with a stock unit....IDK. Surely, ask the Vette tech at the dealer as he might know. But if it were me, I'd look around your area or even call some of our vendor/tuners and ask them*. There may even be some shops in your area that tune Camaros, Corvettes, etc. that work on A8s, either building them up or repairing them. That's who I'd also ask.
*Someone like Jeremy at RPM Trans in Indiana; Rick at RKT Transmission in Maryland, etc.---both Forum vendors.

I'd do at least half the original 500 mile brake in period. I would however be using manual mode from the get go. That early learning period for the computers is critical to longevity imho.

That seems strange to me I am know tranny expert by a long shot but it would seem to make more sense to me to put the car in drive during the break in period and let the computer learn or relearn how to shift on its own and after 250 miles or so and then WOT here we come.
I would think using it in manual mode during the break in period would be tuffer on a brand new A8 tranny what say you other folks here on that issue?

Numbers dont lie... do they. 87 failures out of 16,000 A8 Z06s. 0.5% failure rate.
Btw if all 87 people wanted to file a suit over being put out because of the failures they could do so. Does that make a difference? You dont need many to file a class action...
If 0.5% failure rate for mass produced automotive drivetrains meant (junk and unreliable) then the entire car industry would be in a world of hurt.
Manufactures understand that there are going to be failures that come back when making drivetrains with 1000s of moving parts. Doesnt matter if its a Porsche or a Corvette. The PDK trans for Porsche is arguably the best there is, but yet I can send you a load of failed PDKs posts from pissed off owners on the forums that cant believe it because its Porsche. Should we call the PDK crap too? Not at all.
It blows when it happens to you, but thats what warranties are for and even the OP accepts that its a tiny failure rate, is getting a new trans under warranty and moving on.

And how do you know? did you speak to GM or just base your opinion off simply seeing a handful of failures here and just decide youre right? I didnt come on the thread condemning the A8, you did.
16,000 plus Z06 A8s out there, so you tell me how many or what percentage of failures means the A8 is crap unreliable as you claim? Based on what numbers? Because with failure rates numbers are the only thing that matter... Not some what some guy thinks! So if you dont know, then I will put this down to horse before the cart band wagon comments. End of.

Are you suggesting that you would use it in manual mode for the entire 250 miles we are talking about?
