Default --SNEAK PEEK-- LG Motorsports Carbon Fiber C7 Hood

LG Motorsports C7 Carbon hood is getting closer to release now.

If you don't remember, this was the prototype using during this summers tests.

Molds are being finished up right now after the first test hood was pulled and I knew you guys would want to see a sneak peak of it.

I'll have more updates as I get them!

Looks good! Per the intro piece back in September, the hood has twice the cooling louvers as stock.

Nice job! How does it mate up to the stock shroud? Can't wait to get one.

I'll see if I can't get a weight on it here in the next couple days. I know they still have some trim work to do and get it to us so we can make sure it fits so I want to have it as close to production as possible before putting it on the scales.

The G7 carbon front splitter is 3.65 lbs

Have you done wind tunnel testing on that design? I would assume that the enormous deflector in front of the vents will cause some backdraft. Perhaps forcing heat back into the engine bay.

I like that front splitter. What do those cost?

The leading edge of the hood is there for the reason of sucking air out. It creates a Venturi effect on the back side, helping to suck out the air....not cause it to go back in. This has been proven numerous times. We used this same principal on the front of the hoods of the World Challenge cars to help create better cooling and increased downforce on the cars.

All comes down to $$$$$. for me. like many others we all have these "lists" lol. I hope it's astronomical so I don't have to buy the roof and all the aero in it also!

Your WC cars hood vents are not designed the same. The C7 hood vents (on your product) have recessed openings below the front lip which will indeed cause a backdraft because those vents don't maintain the same air flow path.

I'm sure you'll sell a few.

We changed the hood on the challenge car because of what we did in the tunnel...and yes it looked just like what you see on the C7.

In fact if you were to have purchased a ACS World Challenge hood it has those "modifications" to some degree built into it because we sent them the skin off the race car. You can compare between the video and that unpainted hood to see some of the differences between them.

Again...yes that lip is there for a reason, and it works off the same reason the venturi in a carburetor works to help suck out the high pressure under it.

Backdraft? what is that??

With all due respect, the hood works. The air does not know what is behind the leading lip. Check the Acura hood that is running at Daytona as we speak. plus the CFD of the Corvette GT Lemans hood.

Without going into the entire aero theory, we have tested the hood configurations and with our on track testing, the front down force/reduction of lift at the front PLUS the increased air flow through the radiator confirmed and validated our hood design.

Also check out the CFD model of the corvette racing hood. The red indicates the high pressure as the air is lifted over the opening behind it. It creates a "Bernoulli" effect that makes a low pressure area behind the leading lip.
the louvers are there for two reasons, One, cosmetics because without a proper tunnel from the radiator to force all radiator air into this opening, the engine would be exposed to view and that would be ugly.

The louvers also offer an additional function to redirect any air the "tumbles" in the area at lower speeds.

This is not a guess, it is a fact. WE tried various hood configuration in the GM wind tunnel and in the Atlanta tunnel with another car and this configuration was validated a number of times.

I am glad to see the Acura NSX hood leading lip that is functionally the same as out LGMotorsports hood.

Hope that helps

thanks

I'll have a full write up release and pricing for everyone tomorrow but I had to share two pics of it in bare carbon!
